Last saturday we went rafting with tara tour. We got a nice breakfast near the fireplace. After that we got the equipment, these are a little bit dated but it was ok. When we met our captain he didn’t introduce himself or asked for our names. He can’t speak that much English. We also didn’t get information about the rafting. He just pointed out our positions in the raft, and only said the words ‘go’ or ‘stop’ during the tour. He didn’t try to make us enthousiastic about the rafting or give us information about the things we saw during the rafting. The rafting itself was a little bit boring because we had to paddle all the time without any pause and there were only small parts the water speeded up. There were no parts where we experienced adrenaline like we hoped we would. Afterwards we were told that it’s better to go in june because then te river is wilder and you will be challenged. The lunch afterwards in the camp was very good, we got soup and a nice fish. The people were very friendly. Don’t forget to bring some water for during rafting, or some money to buy drinks during the break. We were very thirsty because they didn’t tell us.

Thanks for your feedback as it is invaluable tool that helps us improve! First of all, I would like to adress the negatives. We are equiped with more than 300 sets of rafting equpment which is increased, repaired and changed anually. If by any case you receive a suit which is torn and we missed it, you simpy ask and we change it for a new one. Regarding the guide it is sometimes impossible for us to have a guide that speaks languages of everyone aboard. If you are a group of 6 or more persons and want a privatly tailored tour we can cater to that as well. Regarding the water level, we tried for 30 years but somehow never managed to make it listen to us... As we told you, please visit us earlier next season and you will try some proper rafting and the tab is on us this time! ;)

We booked the Rest and Paddle option where you sleep overnight in a cabin and then raft the river the next day. There were some really good things about our experience but also some disappointingly bad! Firstly the good. Tara Tour has a great set up. The location is awesome with a well equipped camp and and a lovely view of the Tara and Piva rivers, and Bosnia on the opposite bank. The Tara river is gorgeous with lovely scenery and crystal clear water. The cabins are basic but clean and comfortable. The food is also simple but plentiful and absolutely delicious. They have a bar serving drinks at very reasonable prices. Now the bad. The ‘welcome’ was non-existent. Nobody spoke to us or even smiled at us from the moment we arrived until the middle of the next morning when we were given our equipment for the rafting. The website talks about singing round the campfire but there was no campfire and certainly no singing while we were there in spite of there being plenty of guests. There was no briefing about the plan, but at a random point the next day they started handing out wetsuits, helmets etc and told us to get in the vans. These are not 4x4 vehicles by the way, as the website suggests, but battered old transit vans which are driven very dangerously at high speed to the launch site. The worst thing though was our raft guide. He genuinely made the minimal possible effort from start to finish and appeared totally bored by his work. He told us to paddle when he said “go”, stop when he said “stop” and paddle backwards when he said “back” and apart from that he hardly spoke. On an exciting river, this wouldn’t have been such a problem, but the Tara is August is very mild and there are numerous calm stretches where a decent guide would tell you about the river, or the flora and fauna, or the history of the area. Or perhaps let you jump in or have a water fight with another boat - or anything to have a bit of fun. But our guy just sat at the back leaving us to sit in silence. An additional frustration was that there were several places down river where you can buy drinks, but since we had been told to bring nothing but our phones, none of us had any money, so we stood around for 15 minutes at each stop while our guide had a drink and a smoke with his mates! I raised all this with the guy I booked with when we got back to the camp. To be fair, he accepted that things hadn’t been good enough, apologised and gave me a discount. And it is also worth saying that it was the end of the season and perhaps they are just fed up with tourists! But given how many other rafting operators there are in the area I can’t help feeling that we would have been better off going with someone else.

Dear James, Thank you for your feedback. We don't usualy answer all of the reviews online as we try to focus on the site where our work really matters but when something inaccurate and negative as this comes up we cant keep our guests in the dark. I will first state the negative which 'guy you booked with' - me admitted at the camp. Season was ending and we were starting to make our team smaller when unexpectedly we had ~130 guests on that day. We had to hire outside staff and couldnt find sufficient guides that spoke the language of everyone on that day. Your room was UPGRADED for FREE upon your arrival by person who welcomed you. There is a HUGE campfire in the middle of our restaurant where fire burns almost 24/7, website doesnt mention any singing but nobody was stopping you from singing. You mentioned nobody told you any plans yet somebody approched you in the morning. Wasn't that me with the plans? We had SEVENTEEN vehicles on that day and you could sit in any you like, Land Rover Defenders, Toyota Land Cruisers, Mitsubishi Pajeros and some vans which some people prefer because of comfort. You were given good discount at the end, you were given free drinks, you were offered discount vouchers for a zip line with other company and yet still you are unsatisfied. This is adventure in a undeveloped part of an undeveloped country. We are doing our best with limited resources we have available. This isn't for everyone.

It was an awesome tour. They offered breakfast and lunch surfing the day. The only thing I didn't like was that they were bad att giving information. I have been rafting before and they always took pictures. Here you were suppose to bring your own phone/camera and taken photos. They provided with a waterproof box. The problem was that they didn't let is know this until you were on the boat so we ofcourse left all out stuff in our car beacause we didn't want to risk ruining it... Otherwise it was a great day, shame we didn't get a chance to save it in pictures

It took a lot of difficult research to work out, who operated from where, which part of the river, for how long.etc. We finally chose Tara Tour and we're very glad we did. Firstly, the drive up there from Kator was amazing. A large party was just leaving as we arrived, but our hosts greeted us with beer and invited us to sit out in the garden. We relaxed, taking in the totally wild and mountainous scenery around us. Our cabin was simple but very clean, with a small deck to sit out on. Everyone was very kind, the food was excellent and plentiful. The rafting itself was an amazing wild ride, the river being swollen from late rains. The views are amazing if you get a chance to look. The drive from there, across Dormidor National Park to Zabljak, was beautiful too!
