    Eat and be inspired
Stopped there to see what they had done to commemorate this most famous son of Bellaghy and although we only had time for a short visit could see that it wan an inspiring with a carefully curated to celebrate a very special person. We used the cafe as a pit-stop as we had travelled from London that morning and can only praise that as well for an excellent breakfast that was very tasty and great value. All of our interactions with staff were very pleasant.
Dear goodvaluealways Thank you for your lovely review of your recent visit to Seamus Heaney HomePlace. We are delighted that you found it inspiring and will be happy to pass on your comments to the staff and cafe. I hope it is not too long before we welcome you back again. Stumbling upon this hidden gem was a highlight of my weekend away.
Visiting the HomePlace really was a lovely experience. The staff were so welcoming which made me feel like I was in someone's home! Rebecca was also so informative at the start of our tour. I was actually stuck for time on the day of my visit, but once inside I really got lost reading and listening to the voice of Heaney and his life's story. The magic of his work and the beautiful layout of the museum made me forget the time.
Dear ally1015 Thank you very much for your review of your recent visit to Seamus Heaney HomePlace. We are delighted you felt at home, were made welcome by staff and had a lovely experience. Many people find listening to Seamus read his poetry is indeed magical. I hope it is not too long before we welcome you back again and thank you for your words of encouragement. An interesting visit
I’ll be honest - I had never heard of SH, notwithstanding his Nobel prize. Clearly a failing of my own knowledge and education. Therefore I found this an interesting visit - and enjoyed in particular the resource that allowed you to choose from those that new him or were influenced by him and heard their insights and also in many cases their reading of his work. The audio guide was also good - with the screens also providing access to the analysis of the poems that I found insightful. Whilst the museum walked you through his family and its poetry connections, what I did miss was any commentary of his politics and I found this a strange omission, particularly where the video on his Nobel prize had clear relationships with the PM and presidents of the republic and this left questions for me. Overall a worthwhile visit.
Dear NDMEdinburgh Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your recent visit to Seamus Heaney HomePlace. We are delighted that you enjoyed your visit and that you found the analysis of his poems to be insightful. We look forward to welcoming you back to HomePlace in the near future and thank you for your words of encouragement. Kind Regards Shirley McMurray

A place if warmth to return to again and again
A centre created with love and care We were greeted by a member of staff who was warm, very enthusiastic and very knowledgeable. There is real love for Seamus Heaney in this place. The exhibition concentrating on his life and background brings his work and personality to life. I could have stayed longer to listen to his poems. Few poets read their own work as well. A screen which enables you to access friends and personalities speak of Heaney and read his poetry is utterly absorbing. Upstairs is a more personally creative section with an invitation to explore ones own creativity. Gave me an insight into how the adult Heaney could home in on a detail from his past and weave an unforgettable poem from it. Good video about the Nobel prize also
Dear john28London Thank you for your lovely review of your recent visit to Seamus Heaney Homeplace. We are delighted to hear that you had a warm and enthusiastic welcome. There is indeed a real love for Seamus Heaney here and we agree that listening to Seamus read his own poetry is very special. We look forward to welcoming you back at HomePlace and thank you for your words of encouragement. Kind Regards Shirley McMurray

A must for any fan of the written word
When I found out we were staying 15 mins away from here I knew I had to visit, but I wasn't sure about bringing the kids along. I needn't have worried as there is a large activities area for Children to read or dress up or draw based on the themes of Heaney's poetry. This was staffed the day we visited by Louise, who was endlessly patient with the energies of a 6 and 3 year old. As their Dad stayed there with them that left me free to roam around and immerse myself in the exhibition. Add to that, kids under 7 get in free and adults were £10 each, so a very good value couple of hours out as a family. You get an audio handset when you enter, which as you go around you can listen to the appropriate poems for each section, all read by Heaney himself. Nothing quite compares to hearing a poet read their own work and it is quite special to see the stories and photos of the people and things that inspired them at the same time as hearing them. There is also an on site cafe which was reasonably priced and very tasty, and don't miss the sensory garden to the side of the building (past the allotments) where Heaney's poems are displayed next to the nature that inspired them.
Dear cathc390 Thank you for taking the time to write a lovely review of your recent visit to Seamus Heaney HomePlace. We are delighted that the children enjoyed their time in Creative Learning with Louise, allowing you to immerse yourself in the exhibition. I will pass on your positive comments to the cafe . We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future Kind Regards Shirley McMurray

A gorgeous, evocative testament to Seamus Heaney.
A must see if you’re in this part of the world. Seamus Heaney is undoubtedly one of the worlds finest poets and this is a world class tribute to him. Well done on whoever created and curated this very special place. I really enjoyed it as did my children. Reignited my appreciation for Heaney and rural Ireland.
Dear roshmccrory Thank you very much for your lovely review and for taking the time to share your experience at Seamus Heaney HomePlace. We are delighted to hear you and your children enjoyed your visit and agree that the exhibition is a world class tribute to him. A moving, informative guide to the life and achievement of Seamus Heaney.
A beautifully thought-out museum celebrating the life of Seamus Heaney in the village where he was born and grew up. I particularly enjoyed the family photos, the readings by Heaney and the testimony by admirers, ranging from local schoolchildren to Bono. Everyone at the museum and the cafe (which serves excellent, moderately-priced food) was very welcoming. Clearly the community is proud of Heaney and I found that very moving. I can also recommend the Open Ground tour, especially Lough Beg and the Moyola river. We enjoyed the entertainment by Henry Normal in the delightfully intimate performance space.
Thank you very much for the wonderful feedback about the Exhibition, the Open Ground Guided Tour and in relation to the event that you attended recently in The Helicon. We are delighted that you enjoyed all that Seamus Heaney HomePlace has to offer and we look forward to welcoming you back again very soon. Kind Regards Shirley McMurray

    A Wonderful Experience
This is a wonderful tribute to Seamus Heaney and is educational, informative and heart-lifting. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, the building bright, interesting and very well maintained. The contents are, of course, the reason why so many people visit and it is so very well curated. One could spend a complete day here, but a few hours are a must. One gets to know A little of how talented he was as a genius of a poet, but how humble and generous he was as a man. Do go, you will be rewarded in so many ways for your visit. Excellent, I could not fault anything.
Dear John S Thank you very much for taking the time to share your recent experience at Seamus Heaney HomePlace. We are delighted that you found your visit to be educational, informative and heart-lifting and I will certainly pass on your wonderful comments about the staff. Outstanding world-class cultural venue
Can't speak highly enough about this special place. A world-class cultural venue and an inspirational setting for one of our greatest poets. We did the one day experience, which was incredibly good value. Scones and coffee on arrival, the exhibition, packed lunch and then the Open Ground tour. From the cafe to the customer service to the library, everything was outstanding. We spent all day there and I'd still go back tomorrow. Our 12 year old is now a huge Heaney fan and thoroughly enjoyed the arts and crafts centre and the sensory garden in particular.
Dear Poopy7 Thank you for your lovely review of your recent visit to Seamus Heaney HomePlace and we are delighted to hear that you found it outstanding. The one day experience is a new initiative launched over the summer and has been very well received with our visitors, as has the Open Ground tour. It is especially great to hear that your 12 year old enjoyed his visit and is now a huge Heaney fan. We look forward to welcoming you back again and thank you for your words of encouragement. Poet > guide?
Wonderful that this exists - thank you. Gentle question: isn't the guide's introduction, however well-intended (and of course nothing personal) a banal, redundant, ironic reduction of the poetic to the prosaic? Perhaps save it for school groups only? Or put it on a wall somewhere? If a volunteer, maybe save it for those who ask? If paid, please possibly spend the money on a young poet? Thank you again. What a life-changing, oxygenating genius he was. RIP.
Dear JMMD71 Thank you for the recent positive feedback and review of your time at Seamus Heaney HomePlace. In relation to the query on the introduction we provide to the exhibition, as I am sure you appreciate, we welcome visitors with a vast array of knowledge levels on Seamus Heaney and his work. We find this aspect of the experience is an opportunity for our guides to interact personally with our visitors and to provide context for the exhibition itself, especially for those with a limited knowledge of Seamus Heaney or indeed those encountering his work for the first time. We welcome your comments and will, as always, consider and review. Kind Regards Shirley McMurray

A fascinating insight into the life and poems of Seamus Heaney.

The staff were all very welcoming and helpful, explaining how the audio guides worked and giving a little bit of insight into Seamus Heaney.

There are photos of his parents, family, locals, places and things which influenced his poetry. Descriptions alongside the photos, explain his relationships with his parents and family members and give a short analysis of each of the poems.

Using the audio guide, you can listen to the dulcet tones of Seamus Heaney himself as he reads through these poems, the different emphasis helping your understanding more.

The comfort facilities are excellent and there is a cafe.

What a fabulous treat this visit was. I wasn't quite sure what to expect but it was brilliant. Loved every second. I'm not v knowledgable about Heaney but that didn't matter - it's such an informative and enjoyable experience.

Set over two floors the first tells you about his life and family; the second about his inspiration. All very clearly set out with great interpretation boards but the real treat is the audio - at every stage there is an audio number. You turn your audio on and listen to Seamus Heaney's voice reciting the relevant poem. It's so brilliantly done.

And there's a wonderful cafe so you can take a break at any point if you want to. And the reception staff were so welcoming and enthusiastic.

Really recommend

We were really looking forward to this part of our trip and it didn’t disappoint in any way. Great staff on the reception who knew the subject matter. The ability to listen to SH on an audio device on the tour was wonderful. I found the entire experience very moving indeed. We will be back for a concert one day. Highly recommended venue

My husband is a big poetry fan so suggested we take a small detour on our route to Belfast to visit this museum. I must admit I knew little about Seamus Heaney before the visit but found the whole place utterly engaging. The ground floor in particular is so well curated and to hear the poet read his own work was delightful. We spent a thoroughly enjoyable few hours here and finished off our visit in the cafe which was lovely. The staff in all areas were warm, welcoming and knowledgeable. Well worth a visit!

A deeply moving and unique experience awaits at Home Place. Even if you have only a passing interest in the life and works of Seamus Heaney, this is a must. It was wonderful to understand the context of his work thanks to the wonderful and accessible nature of this unusual and accessible celebration of a great but modest and deeply human man.

A great experience, even with 4 teenagers and 2 OAPs! Reading the poetry, and hearing Seamus recite it, was good but reading about the pieces in context really brought it to life. The first room was brilliant, with his life unfolding as you moved around. Upstairs was a bit more tenuous but the kids loved the artistic area.
