Fabulous Hidden Gem

Fabulous pub!

This place has everything you could want: charm, warmth, good food, excellent drinks and amazing staff.

Been visiting here on and off whilst on holiday in Devon for nearly 20 years and hoping for many more returns!

Not good
Aug 2021 • Family
Not very happy! Came here 1st night on holiday 1st August, just arrived. Found this place open on a Monday. Very busy but fitted us in. Had a lovely evening although waited over an hour for our food. Came back tonight last eve of our holiday. Looking forward to it, booked 6.45. Got to the pub ordered drink and food, which came quite quickly..then asked to see dessert menu, older woman gave us a strange look never came bk with menu. Served everyone else. In the end we asked for the bill paid and left. Very unhappy. Staying at a cottage not too far away.. will leave bad comments and not recommend anyone to come and eat here. Very rude!! Hopefully the manager will get back to me!

Great pub for a post-walk pint
Oct 2020
Dropped in for a drink about 4pm on a sunny but cold autumn afternoon. Very welcoming - cosy - good ciders and a pint of Topside served by Trevor, played some dominoes. Tried the chips - plentiful and well cooked (just right after a walk)

Great pub, excellent accommodation.

Lovely pub in a charming village. The accommodation was excellent, we had a very comfortable and spacious room and enjoyed an excellent breakfast. The choice of food in the pub for lunches and dinners was good. We found John (the landlord?) very friendly and knowledgeable. Would definitely return at some stage.
Our stay was in August so 'maybe' the pub could've participated in the government backed 'Eat out to help out' scheme (at no cost to them?). I got the impression that some people turned up expecting them to be running the scheme (I may be wrong!)

A friendly welcome for a peaceful pub stay
Aug 2020
We had a lovely stay during a child-free visit this weekend and felt very lucky to be able to book after they had a late cancellation. A really peaceful location well out of the way. A lovely old pub and a very friendly and welcoming team. The breakfasts were delicious and the evening menu had a good choice. We stayed in the cottage across the road which was clean and cosy. This pub is rustic old world charm rather than upmarket swish which is just what we were looking for. Nice local beer on tap too.

Visited twice in a week on holiday. Proper old pub with good beer and a lovely atmosphere. Food mainly standard pub grub but done to a very high standard.

Lovely Country Pub

Lovely pub, friendly staff, great food, and happy to accomodate vegans. Also hosted a beer festival with entertainment from folk outfit 'Banned On The Moor' which made for a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. Would definitely visit again if in the area!
