This was a wonderful experience that was easily the highlight of my family's trip to Ireland!

Working with My Ireland Heritage Tours was a great experience from beginning to end.

I gave Sean the information on a family line from the Glenswilly area of Donegal that my aunt and I (both experienced amateur genealogists) have been researching for literally decades with very little luck once we hit Irish records. Due to the surnames in question being very common in that part of Donegal (McMonagle, McLaughlin, McDevitt, Hagerty), my aunt and I had never been able to locate with certainty where our family lived while in Ireland using the existing records available through commercial genealogy sites.

Based on the family information I provided to Sean, he was able to find the townlands that my family was from and then he was able to drill down even further and provide us with the actual locations where my McMonagle, McLaughlin, McDevitt, and Hagerty ancestors had lived between 1847 - 1864 in Donegal.

All of Sean's findings on my family were backed up with supporting evidence in the form of tax evaluations, land plats, and census records, and presented to my family in a lovely hardbound book. As we had chosen the "self drive" option, Sean also provided us with maps pointing out the physical locations on google maps of where my family had lived as well as the Eircodes for those locations. This information allowed my family to visit the actual sites where my ancestors lived or worked land. We were also fortunate to find remnants of structures that were likely either built or used by my family for three of the locations.

My Ireland Heritage Tours was a wonderful experience and I am glad that we chose the self drive experience because not only did it allow us to go at our own pace and take side trips when we wanted, we were also able to break out the experience over several days and fit in visiting the family locations between other activities.

It meant a lot to me to be able to walk along Stroove beach, which was a quarter mile from where my Hagertys lived, and think about the fact that my ancestors had no doubt walked the same beach and looked out at the same views. With the self driving tour package there was no rush and we could take as much time as we needed at each place.

I cannot speak highly enough of this experience, or of Sean and the rest of his team. Every interaction was professional and the communication leading up to the trip was great. You could tell that this is a company that really values their clients and believes in what they do.

I would recommend this experience to anybody with family roots in Ireland who wants to "walk in the path of their ancestors". It was magical.

Sean, Aisling and Ian were the best tour and Heritage Company that you ever could hope for. My sister had coordinated with Sean and Aisling over a year ago to look into our ancestors. Sean did a wonderful job, Aisling arranged everything and we had the best tour director ever in Ian.
We started in Dublin where Ian picked us up and drove us first to Waterford where our ancestors eventually come to from Wicklow and then went on to the US. He took us all over and showed us places where they would have lived, gone to church and worked as well as the workhouse that part of our family lived in before coming to America as well as other parts of the area. There is so much history in Ireland and he told us all he knew which was incredible. He drove us to Avoca that evening and dropped us off at the cottage we would being staying for the rest of our trip. He picked us up the next morning and took us all over Avoca and surrounding towns where the family originated. He took us to the churches, burial grounds, ruins and places where they would have lived and did so much work before we even got there that made it that much better. We saw the Miners Cross, The Motte Stone, The Vail of Avoca and so many other sights that we never would have seen without Ian and company. If you want a family that will give you their best and make it one of the most outstanding trips please sign up with My Ireland Family Heritage. The book they made for us was so much more than I could have asked for. We had 2 wonderful days of history, sites, laughter and stories that I'll never forget. We'll definitely be back for more in the future.

Our recent trip to Ireland included a stop in County Meath to see what My Ireland Heritage was able to uncover for my family ancestry. We were looking forward to viewing the area where my 2nd great grandparents lived before emigrating to the US and discovering what their lives might have been like.

We opted to do the two day tour package with My Ireland Heritage. We wanted to see the historic sites in County Meath and were not disappointed with Seán’s knowledge of the area and Irish history. On the 2nd day’s tour, thanks to Seán, we were able to see the village of Nobber where my ancestors were from. We walked on the lane where my family lived, loved, played, worked, cried, and laughed. I was overwhelmed, at times, with what we saw and the amount of information that Seán provided about the area, and what life would have been like for my family. I loved the idea that to get to church, people would walk through the fields as a short cut. I also enjoyed learning that my 2nd great grandfather and grandmother probably met in Nobber during market day as they were from different town lands outside the village.

Working with My Ireland Heritage was a wonderful experience which I would highly recommend. Seán is a very good genealogy researcher and takes pride in his work, he ensures that a thorough job is done for his clients.

Hats off to My Ireland Heritage for a job well down!

Sean and Aisling were very helpful. We contacted them about a month before our trip and they were able to find 3 of our 5 families for us. The 2 he couldn’t find we didn’t have enough information for them.
We did a self guided tour that was easy to follow. We visited 3 properties that the families lived on in the 1840s. One of them, a family member still lived on the property and we were able to see the original home that was built in the early 1800s, pictured below. We hope to be able find more information about the other families that will lead to finding information about them.
Thank you Sean and Aisling.

Took the better part of a year plus a covid cancellation to make this trip happen. But certainly one of the best tour experiences I’ve had.

Aisling is the organizing genius, Sean the genealogy researcher, and Ian the boots on the ground. They took the information I had about an ancestor and spun the whole story, then took us to places that figured in it: places of weddings, baptisms, farms, burials. They were even able to locate a distant relative—in his nineties—still living in the townlands.

Both Sean and Ian are superlative storytellers and lovely fellas to spend your day with.

Save up your money for this: you will be enchanted.

Contacted My Ireland Heritage Tours back in 2019 when we started planning our trip to Ireland. Finally, we just completed our visit in April 2022 after cancelling several times because of Covid. Sean and Ashling have worked with us with ease during this pandemic. When we would cancel our weeks tour with CIE and had to cancel with My Ireland Heritage Tour it couldn't have been easier. They said just let us know when you are coming and we'll continue from there. That in itself was much appreciated. Sean found the property that was owned by my great grandfather Quinn and put together a folder for me with all the information he found along the way. He made a point to personally meet us and even when we returned home he mailed to make sure we made it home safely. I highly recommend My Ireland Heritage Tours for not only a thorough search for your family history but also because of the personal touch they give.

I found My Ireland Heritage a year ago when planning our trip to Ireland to see where our ancestor who immigrated to America lived. We contacted Aisling and got an overview of what they could do for us. Aisling is great. A very good communicator and so very friendly. They guarantee, with the information you give them to start with, they can find where your ancestors lived within ten yards. They did that and more. They even found a relative, another direct descendant of our family’s great great grandfather from his second wife we didn’t know he’d had.

Ian took us all around where the family lived and farmed. He is a hoot. We had such a great time. Not only did we spend a day touring the ancestral area, but we took another tour the next day. Both days were fantastic. He has a great knowledge of Ireland and it’s history as well as the specific places we visited. Some very good stories also. If we can get back to Ireland, we will definitely take another of their tours or two.

I don’t think you could find a better genealogical searcher or tour guide than this group of people. They even put together a book of our family and Irish history.

One thing about Irish county roads, they are only as wide as a car but are 2 lane with no ditches along the side. Instead they have tall hedges atop rock walls lining the road. If you meet someone, somebody has to back up. So very different than US country roads. I’m definitely glad I didn’t have to drive.

If I could give them 10 stars I would.

Because of COVID a planned trip became a research only endeavor. I started the journey to honor my recently passed grandmother and to give some answers about our family to her brother who had been researching the family for a long time.
I was super excited to talk with Sean and with his guidance I was able to find out more information that he needed to trace some of the family. When I received my book it was beautiful bound and very comprehensive on most of the Family. Most of the time I was able to quickly correspond with Aisling and Sean, and he most graciously held off on sending my book at my request in the futile hope that I'd find more information to help him find my great-great grandpa.

Which leads us to why I gave them an average rating instead of an excellent rating. Sean was able to quickly find most of my family besides for the main one I'd asked him to research, there he couldn't find anything. Knowing genealogy normally this wouldn't be something upsetting, but I found out that he had previously done research on this specific branch and had turned up nothing. If during our consultation he'd simply said "I've researched them before and haven't had any luck, but would be glad to try again" then this probably would have been an excellent review. Also the book is a bit hard to interpret without help.

My experience with My Ireland Heritage was all that I dreamed it would be. I had hoped to experience the townlands, graveyards, and foot paths my ancestors traveled and tended. Through Sean & Ian's research I was able to experience the townland of Kilgar, walk through graveyards in Fore and Archerstown, and travel the pathways (now roadways) that my ancestors did. I provided as much information that my family had on our Irish ancestors. Utilizing this, in addition to their genealogical expertise, Ian & Sean were able to locate relevant records providing missing pieces for my family. I spent the day with Ian traveling to the townlands and graveyards. Additionally, Ian's natural friendliness resulted in an unexpected connection with church staff in Castletown-Delvin.

The logistics side of this trip was expertly handled by Aisling. Her competence and expert guidance helped in locating appropriate lodging and securing dates that worked well for all of us. As I continue to investigate additional branches of my Irish ancestry, my hope is to return to Ireland and secure the assistance of My Ireland Heritage.

Sean, Aisling and Ian were amazing to work with! They are passionate about the details and making your trip as memorable as possible. It's important to note that you need to have done as much research in your home country as possible and provide that level of detail to Sean and his team. They will advise you if its possible to find the plot of land that your ancestor lived on in the mid 1800s.

After fifty years of genealogy research, I had finally pinpointed some of my Irish lines to three counties; Cavan, Limerick and Tipperary. This is not enough level of detail. Ideally you know the townland but if not, you at least know the parish. With the information I provided, Sean was able to identify the land for one line in Limerick. For the others we could get close but couldn't be sure which was the exact property because we couldn't identify which head of household was the correct father. Sean was clear to me about that and I had the option of not exploring those other family lines. Because the heads of households all lived in close proximity we visited all the plots of land owned by the various family members and while I can't identify which plot of land on the road belonged to my direct ancestor, I experienced the view that they would see everyday.

Sean offers two options; a guided tour; or you drive and he provides the maps. I opted for the guided tour and it was the right decision for me. Sean was my guide for the first 2 days and Ian guided me the last three. We had wonderful conversations on the drives which enabled me to learn more about the Irish culture and the history.

The team scouts out the townlands a couple of weeks prior to your arrival. They find the plot of land, meet with locals, and check out churches and graveyards. They can set up appointments to meet with these individuals when you arrive. As a foreigner, I would never have met these people. Ian was able to find an 82-year old grave digger in Askeaton, Limerick who gave us a lot of history about the area and knew of some of my family lines. He also showed us the famine grave which was at a Protestant church and contained both Catholics and Protestants. He also explained about the false bottom caskets. I could never have learned this information if I just showed up from America.

This was truly a trip of a lifetime for me. Sean and his team leave no stone unturned. They are certified genealogists so their research skills are impeccable. They are great storytellers, very proud of their history and want you to feel at home in their country. I left with a much better understanding of the country and a feeling of connectedeness to my ancestors; as well as an appreciation for their emmigration to America in the mid 1800s and the opportunities it provided my family.

I wholeheartedly recommend My Ireland Family Heritage. They provided me with an amazing experience that I will never forget. I hope to determine where my other Irish lines are from and would use them again in the future.
