The natural pools at Biscoitos are quite large and really nice to swim and still be able to watch the waves. There are various entry points to two different pools (one is more protected). There are change rooms and WC, as well as kiosks to buy baked goods, fruits and veg, and souvenirs. We also had a meal at the cafe which we really enjoyed.

This place is a must if you visiting Terceira island in the Azores. Natural rock pools in volcanic rocks just back from the ocean. Extremely clean and clear water pools for swimming in. Life guards on duty we loved the place. Good parking and amenities some local produce and products being sold around car park but no hassle. And good little cafe we had coffee but food was available. Do not miss this place?

I saw a few of these natural swimming pools around the island. This one and the one in Praia were the best. These 5 or 6 pools are underneath the shadow of huge black lava rocks, protecting them from the intense buffeting of 10" - 15' waves. It really is a spectacle and to think that if you were to be in those "pools" you would be safe, despite the constant noise of crashing waves and the mist.
Getting to the pools was very slippery, I almost slipped twice. There are small warning signs I saw on my way out. I did not fully go in, but I did dip a few toes in.- It was too cold, but I am sure in warmer months it would be well received..

The waves crashing into shore give even the modest photographer an opportunity to capture an amazing shot. It’s free and it’s fun. Highly recommend!

Easy to find, just follow the signs. It was late in the day when we arrived and there was a good wind blowing which made for excellent waves pounding the coastline in spectacular style. I did put my feet in and found the cold water to be therapeutic. These are not warm thermal pools as we've seen on other island, they are filled with seawater and formed by the volcanic rock surrounding them with some man-made help.
It's a really pretty spot. We spent about 1 - 2 hours here watching the waves, taking photos and having a glass of wine at local bar.

Ponta dos Biscoitos is one of many places to observe the magnificent power of the ocean waves as they crash against huge volcanic rocks and cliffs on the north shore. The fury of the ocean, especially on windy days, unleashes an awesome spectacle where waves can reach heights of more than 30 ft. You can take incredible pics or videos to share with family and friends. You will need to venture off EN1-1 to get close to the ocean to see the best wave action, but it is well worth it for the ‘Wow’ factor. Look for the road signs.

Visiting this location again was certainly a bonus on our drive around the island. Last year it was low tide but this year the Ocean was wild and stormy and the pools were filled and much action could be photographed! Such a difference in pictures.
We are thankful we made the decision to stop again and view this beautiful site.

It is obvious that this place must be jammed during the summer months. However, even in cooler weather, there were some hearty souls taking a dip in the pools surrounded by lava rock formations. The waves crash just beyond, and the entire place is beautiful. There is a very large parking lot and stalls of vendors. When we were there, only one was open, serving homemade snacks, cakes and drinks. The proprietor told us that in the summer, there are others who sell more refreshments and souvenirs. There are bathrooms and changing areas, and picnic area.

The drive is beatiful and along the way, you can visit little towns, beaches, and stop at view points. The restaurante caneta in Altares is a boom, you will have to try it.

The rocks are so cool and the place is very cool. They have 2 stalls sell fresh fruit, veggie, snacks outside. Really glad we went. I would say definitely go if you have a car.

The drive home back watching sunset is very nice too, I stayed in Agra.

A beautiful place for a visit or a swim, with natural pools enhanced by unobtrusive terracing and access. Black rocks and blue sea make an enchanting combination, with white spray adding to the drama. Our visit was brief, but you could spend a whole day here (in the right weather), with a cafe, a few stalls, and some grassy parkland, along with fine views and possible walks. A very popular spot among locals as well as visitors and well worth a visit.
