This church only deserves a mention as a tourist attraction because it serves as a yardstick for comparing the size of the big tree that stands next to it. Average looking white edifice with sparse decoration and two short bell towers. Couldn't go inside during COVID in January 2021.

Great part of any visit to the Tule Tree is the church next to it, which is actually dwarfed by the tree. It's a beautiful white 16th century church with a nice fascade Andy statues and paintings inside

The Santa Maria de la Asuncion has the Tule Tree within its church grounds. This makes for an absolute beautiful setting. The Tule Tree is the widest tree in the world. The church and its colourful facade are a must visit when visiting Oaxaca.

The church dates back to the 16th Century. wonderful statues and artwork inside. Outside the 2000 year old tree! it's spectacular and the church helps give perspective to the size of the tree. Beautiful gardens.
There is a charge to get into the church yard but it's only a few pesos.
