The cafe was brilliant, we had two small children and the staff made lunch, which is normally very stressful and hard work, a really enjoyable experience. The ham and cheese toasties were so tasty, proper doorstop bread and loads of cheese. They were more than happy for our little ones to eat the cheese sandwiches we made at home (as they never eat what we buy out). They made a massive fuss of the little ones, playing with them, involving them in the ordering process and just making the whole lunch easy and enjoyable! Can't rate the staff highly enough!

The trails are excellent. But don’t bother with the cafe. The service was shocking.
Ordered 3 breakfasts. Waited 45 minutes for a poor excuse for food was not hot when arrived, No beans, no bread available with the breakfast. Coffee was luke warm. And £30 for the privilege too.
Will never use again.

My Wife and her friend called into the Cafe for a coffee and sandwich at Afan Argoed Cafe. Reaction was Dissapointing the coffee a Latte and a sausage sandwich, which comprised of two pieces of cut brown bread each. One had Latte, bread with one sausage, the other had Latte, one piece of bacon. My Wife's food and coffee came to 7.65, with having to request sauces which was not initially offered with the food. Although clean, this food and the menu was massively overpriced and the reaction of other Diners were of a similar outcome as my wife, too little and overpriced. We once used to enjoy stopping off after a dog walk to sit outside and enjoy the surroundings, but, at these prices it has become not affordable.I realise outgoings may be greater in a place like this, but, obviously repeat customers are something that are a must to achieve. Sorry will not be eating in this place again due to lack of presentation of foods, and what seems like a massive hike in prices.

Stopped here for lunch after some walking. Well done to cafe for their covid arrangements. Good to see these being taken seriously. A very small menu but the food we had was very good and we did feel that there was enough choice. We both had the parsnip with chestnut soup accompanied by welsh rarebit. There was too much for me to eat but my partner cleaned his plate. My only critisism was that the welsh rarebit had a bit too much ale in it and was a bit runny but this was a personal taste preference and other may love the ale in the rarebit. Great place to come for lunch after some exercise, and would certainly return

Had a fabulous day leisurely walking the trails in this lovely forest. Clearly a must for mountain bikers but great for us walkers too.

Great, well marked walking trails. Lots of mountain bikers who seem to be enjoying the plethora of trails for them too. Amazed how quiet it was during August. Good for dogs but would advise putting them on leads in certain places where there are steep drops down to the river….ours are quite capable of chasing a bird flying straight over a cliff!

First time visiting Afan Forest park yesterday and it was brilliant. We tried the Rookie Green and Blue mountain bike trails. Both trails were great for beginners (although still tricky), with some good climbs, tight corners, and rocks/gravel to tackle. I loved the skills part to practice some more technical bits. We did three laps of the routes with a break in between. Lovely cafe with good food and coffee. Toilets which were very clean and covid friendly. Car park was only £3.50 for the day. Can’t wait to go back and try out some of the other blue trails.

Reasonable car parking with clean toilets, the mining museum was closed despite that the outside exhibits and information boards were interesting.
The cafe had friendly staff, a good range of food and drink with some outside seating.
We walked the yellow trail, it was a good walk not too challenging but not too easy. The route was well sign posted.
The mountain biking trails were great, plenty for every level including a rookie trail with skills to try they were sign posted but not always clearly, at least for us.

How do you get on the Rheillfordd cycling trail from the visitors centre ? Couldn’t see any signs for that.

We didn't use it either. The cakes looked good but I don't know about the menu. We were disappointed that the drinks were serve yourself from a machine ie take a sachet of powder and add water.
