The Sea of Clouds you can see at Danao was a disappointment for me. The locals couldn't stop talking about it, I heard my host in Panglao praising it endlessly, so I had expections. But this so called sea of clouds doesn't even compare to what I have experienced in Peru watching the sun rise at Machu Pichu.
This hike was a disappointment which wasn't worth staying an extra night for.
What is amazing in Danao though is the thousands of fireflies the locals call aninipot, these little creatures fly into your room during the night and sparkle like some magical fairies. When I first saw them I had to pinch myself, they just don't look real, they make you feel like you are in a Disney movie :)

Timing is everything in this spot to have the low lying hills covered in clouds. A doable hike with peaks that aren't too tall. 25 pesos entrance fee.

Rented a scooter from Mr. Jonas of Bohol Jarax Motorcycle Rental (Tel: 09073996987) nearby the ferry terminal for just ₱400, the cheapest you can find in the whole Bohol.

Rode almost 100Km from Tagbilaran City to Danao where the entrance of the Sea of Clouds is. Along the way, 28km before reaching, you can stop over at Zita's restaurant at Sagbayan town.

Once you reach Danao, you can contact Mr. Benjie (Tel: 09072039311) and rented a tent from him at ₱250. You may also rent a room from him at ₱500 per night. The Sea of Clouds is just located 400m next to his home.

Entry fee for going up the hill cost ₱10 but if you intend to camp overnight, it cost you just ₱30. The clouds start to form up at around 4.30am and by 5am, the whole place look like an open ocean. If there is no strong wind that morning, usually the sea of clouds can last until 8am.

Two things our guide told us which we shouldn’t have believed:

1.) We need to be at vantage point by 430am - While the weather is still suitable for the trek, you don’t really see anything substantial until 530 to 6am. Being there early also means trekking in the dark and having to wait at the vantage point longer. There are two other “rest areas” which provide good views without going to the highest point.

2.) The hike is only 5 to 10 mins - I guess this applies to locals who are used to the climb. While the path is clear and well marked, expect 15 to 30 mins going up and down 3 hills.
