The thing I love about this fortress is it's not being sold as a tourist destination. No entrance fee, no rules about where you can or can't visit, no concrete parking area - just an old abandoned fortress sitting on a beautiful hill overlooking Kotor.
The Fortress has minimal signposting from the main road so you have to be careful not to miss it. The track from the main road is paved and of decent quality but narrow in places, as long as you take your time it's easy to drive. Maybe takes 5-8 minutes from the main road.
Once you get there there's plenty of parking space as the road opens up into a field. There is nobody manning the place so it's quite likely you'll be the only ones there. You can explore the fortress, inside and out. You can walk inside the various rooms, down the steps into the basement area, even get on the roof and see the huge turret that's still sitting in place - in my opinion it's worth visiting just to see that.
I would also mention that the place can be dangerous is disrespected. There is a lot of glass on the ground, it's overgrown in places, steps and broken and sometimes frail. The roof has not safety rails and there are holes in places so watch your footing. As long as you're careful it's an exhilarating and fascinating experience.

It was absolutely amazing experience. The point is aside from main tourist routes. The buses can't get here.
We've been the only visitors and nothing was breaking sounds of nature. Views on Kotor and the bay and the mountains around absolutely beautiful.
For those who likes impressive man-made objects the fort itself will be very interesting. The mass of concrete and engineering design look amazing.
Unlike "healthy-safe" Western Europe it is possible to get everywhere where you feel safe to go.
Great moments to remember!

This ruin is a well preserved historical ruin. Some parts are dangerous and dark. Be aware of snakes! Just go inside and watch everything until is free and accessible.

We spent about an hour at this fort and had a very knowledgeable guide who was able to impart details of it's history in great detail.
The views alone from the walls of the fort are worth the vist.

We stopped in here on the way back from visiting Lovcen national park. The place was completely empty, and quite overgrown. We had a great time exploring the ruins, although it was very dark and some areas possibly unsafe. We explored as much as we were able to, looks like the local youth probably come here to drink, so there was a fair bit of empty cans/bottles and other assorted rubbish around.
Still, this was a great place to explore, and the view from the top of the gun/dome is amazing.

Not easy to fInd but different from the churches! The castle is much better maintained but this fort is a great find, amazing views if a little run down.

Worth a short trip from Kotor old town for spectacular views. It's 19th century fort built by Austro Hungarians. Unfortunately it's not well maintained and you need to wonder around to find access to the top.
