We were the only 2 on the walk, so it was great to find our guide, Chris, to be friendly, knowledgeable and informative. His interest and passion for this battlefield came through as we were constantly informed of key factors and the locations shown to us in the surrounding fields. We are locals, but Chris was able to tell us... More

Interesting informative walk. Quite a long walk but worth it. Not good unless you have good mobility.

You will need sturdy and comfortable walking boots to give ankle support, the path can be uneven in a few parts, especially alongside the road. Allow a couple of hours to get around. The information boards are excellent but a few simple benches along the way would not go amiss for the less nimble. It is a good all-round tour... More

Interesting walk, informative information boards, It's a decent walk, went in soft shoes (my mistake) you really need a good pair of walking shoes/boots, would suggest a couple of strategically positioned park benches or something similar for persons of a certain age (such as myself) to have a breather, Don't go on a Monday, The pub's shut.

My (adult) son and I did the battlefield walk with one of the guides from the Towton Battlefield Society. I recommend doing this, our guide Chris Murphy have us a real five star tour. The walk takes around two hours give or take. This includes stops at the information boards where the guide will enlarge on the material written on... More

There are walking routes around the battlefield, but a good overview can be obtained by visiting the Crooked Billet pub at Saxton, which has an explanation on the outside wall, and the memorial cross, which has a board and a short walk to the site of one of the major incidents in the battle. At the Crooked Billet (which has... More

This is the battle site has a very nice walk and some nice information boards, but TBH the best way to visit this battlefield is on one of the guide tours provide by the Townton battlefield society.

Very poignant place to visit. Easy parking in roadside lay-by. There is a circular walk which passes through the village of Towton with its very good pub, the Rockingham Arms. The information boards are very good and well worth reading, adding to the atmosphere of this special place. Also, lovely views to enjoy. Well worth a detour.

For anyone interested in history Chris Murphy, our guide from Towton Historical Society brings the whole Towton battle to life with his expert knowledge of the period. Finished with a lovely meal in Rockingham Arms.
