Worth it just for the rollercoaster ride up!

Wow - the trip up is certainly something hairaising. You have to wait until the truck has been filled up and trust me you will feel like a sardine. Then you begin the journey up to the rock. This is like being on a rollercoaster as you go round the bends of the mountain and people were screaming out as... More

Could not see a thing, but the photo opportunities were fabulous! Monks and others going about their daily routines. Little eateries and shops opening, dogs and cats curled up in the streets. We got up before sunrise but really never saw the sun until 7 ish. It turned out to be a stunning day. The truck trip up and down... More

The Golden rock pagoda rests on an edge of a rocky mountain and one of the amazing place you should go and visit in Myanmar.

If the fact that the boulder looks like it is should just roll down the hill isn’t enough, immersing yourself in the life of the locals who undertake this pilgrimage is a sight to behold. Watching the sunset behind the Golden Rock is pretty spectacular. There is a real celebratory feel to the place while we were there as it... More

I took the local bus to be there, the communication problem made me take so long non-reasonable time to arrive the base camp. I had to visit the pagoda on the day after. On the next day, I did not mean to take the truck of Burmese people instead of foreigner. But everyone understood that I was Burmese as my... More

The rock was definitely worth the long journey. It is quite special to wonder how it keeps balancing on the edge of the mountain and to see the locals and pilgrims paste gold leave on it. The ride to the top was horrible though. The bus drives like a maniac and I was literally scared for my life. If I... More

This is to tell travelers that when you first get into town that cute little gold rock you see at first is NOT the real golden rock. We never learned this until we arrived in Yangon only to see we never visited this place! So, don't think that you can hike up to the golden rock in 1 hr. like... More

We stayed at Park Royal Hotel and did a day trip to Mount Kyaiktiyo (the Golden Rock) and on our way back, we also visited Bago. We left our hotel at 6.45am and got back in at 8.15pm. Our guide, U Khin (pronounced as "Ooo Khin") is a great fellow who speaks very good English and the cost of our... More
