Apologies Jaya as this has taken me years to write but I want to make sure the world knows how wonderful of an experience this was for me. It would only let me select a specific date but I did this trek with your team in October of 2018. We were traveling from Seattle, Washington, USA and communication with Jaya was easy. We booked before our trip and Jaya made sure that we had a ride to and from the boat, as well as, a place to stay for two nights. We arrived by boat from one of the Gili Islands and were picked up quickly by a large and comfortable SUV. The drive was about 2-2.5 hours and easy and beautiful. Though, Indonesia has suffered a great many natural disasters that year - including hurricanes, tsunamis and earthquakes. In Lombok particularly, an earthquake had destroyed much of the villages and cities that we passed and they were rebuilding - our hearts were heavy seeing the aftermath of this. We stayed at the Rumah Daun Home Stay and Restaurant - arriving there late in the evening (9-10pm). We met up with Jaya at his home and met part of his family - he also gave us instructions on how much payment would be and allowed us to pay after our trek. The 2-day journey was the next day. The Home Stay was wonderful - the family that owned it (and friends, I'm assuming) shared their rice wine with me and we sang songs together on the guitar all night. I learned some Lombok originals ("Lombok, I love you" by Amtenar) and we sang some Beatles and Fugees, as well. We were picked up around 11am-12pm the next day and was a short ride the hike's entry point. It was a bumpy ride in the back of the truck, but didn't bother me at all - this was our adventure! We had three guides - apologies for not remembering all of their names, but I do remember one named Pen (he was in his mid-30s and had done the trek many times). I walked quite slow and he stayed with me the entire time, encouraged me that he pace I was walking was just fine and explained some of his memories to me. I do advise to bring headlamps as it may get dark during the first day to the camp. We did not come prepared with these and had to use our phones. My boyfriend slipped in the dark and it scared me so badly that I had a hard time hiking in the dark the next morning. We were supposed to get up at 4am to go the rest of the way up, but I was too scared, so we started at 6am and went most of the way up - enough to get beautiful views of the volcanic lake and mountainous ranges (about 10,000 feet). The landscape throughout the entire trek was beautiful and different at each level. On the ground level, there were more droopy, stringy trees where it was hard to tell where one tree ended and one tree began. Then, has we moved higher and higher, it became foggy as we passed through the clouds surrounding us and gave me a Jurassic Park feel - the grass was taller than me! It also reminded me of the floating mountains in the movie, Avatar. Then, at the top, it was more resembled the mountains of Washington, with some short grass and pine trees. Throughout the way up, there were large cracks in the ground from the earthquake a few weeks prior. Though, the route was cleared and marked safe, it was quite terrifying walking over large cracks in the Earth hat seemed to have no end. Overall, every inch was beautiful - something I'll never forget. When we got to camp, the crew took care of us as if we were royalty. They built a fire and made tea right away, set up our tents (one for us and one for them) and proceeded to make dinner for everyone (a delicious vegetable soup with rich and salty broth) - it was absolutely amazing. We got little sleep and woke up early the next morning to start the rest of the hike up. Pen was the only one that came with us up while the other two packed up our camp. Pen took many photos of us at the top - he insisted and was good at it! Then, we headed back down the mountain slowly but surely. Again, Pen was very encouraging on my pace and allowed me to go as slow as possible. We also heard some monkeys during our trek down. Also, on our way down we all decided to pick up trash to make sure to keep the trek paths clean, which was great. After our trek, Jaya allowed us to shower and relax, then picked us up again for dinner at his favorite place - "he takes his wife there," he told us. It was a beautiful and on the water, they served fresh fish and chicken, tea and rice. The meal was complementary for us. Needless to say, my heart (and belly) was full after this experience. If I remember correctly, we paid in cash after our experience and thanked him graciously. It was a wonderful experience and would recommend anyone traveling to Indonesia to carve out 2-4 days to visit the wonderful place that is Lombok.

I booked the two days / one night trekking to Gunung Timanuk through Jaya. The view from the peak to the crater and Rinjani is absolutely stunning and worth the steep climb. We were a small group of five people and the only ones on the peak for sunrise. We were accompanied by five super friendly guides and porters. They prepared amazing food, offered us coffee and tea, set up the tents... they did everything for us to have an awesome time. Thank you!
