A castle, and a Polish palace, much rebuilt, fairly plain but an interesting museum section fills the large rooms. Has a nice cafe outside. Right in centre of Dubno. The romantic hotel restaurant nearby is worth a try too... if only for the gauche decor. Food iffy for the price, dried up pancake with baked dry salmon was the low point of three weeks of eating in Ukraine, was it remicrowaved to get that leather texture?

While in Dubno I did visit the castle twice, first on a night excursion with very talented actors portraying historical events. And two days later in the day. It is two complete different experiences.

Nice castle situated by the main road. There is no entrance fee and no guide to show you around/tell you something more about it but you can visit it on your own. There is a cave beneath the castle that leads to the left part of the castle, overlooking the lake. I suggest you to order a coffee or sit in for a lunch in a restaurant outside of the castle, the food is delicious!

Nicely maintained castle with good exposition in the main building and torture chamber in the basement of the other one. When we were there in one of the rooms of the main building it was an exposition with old currency from the early 19xx issued during the fight of Ukrainians with Soviet forces for the independence that ultimately ended in defeat and annexation of the western regions from Poland and Hungary.
Finally 30 years ago Ukraine gained Independence on the ruins of the USSR.

Built in 1492 by Prince Konstantin Ostrogski the castle went through several renovations and has changed some its householders, among them Ostrogski, Zasławski and Lubomirski families. Today it houses a pretty interesting museum which is worth a visit.

We paid a nominal charge to go inside the castle, and there are gardens to walk about. We were greeting in one of the buildings, with the news that more tickets are needed, and were charged 40UAH (not a lot), and found that this gives us a guided tour. Our first guide couldn't speak much English, but did her best to communicate. She opened some locked rooms to see religious icons, a collection of money used in the area over the 20th century (rather interesting, German occupation money for instance), folk costumes and a reconstructed kitchen etc. All good stuff. Then another guide was found with good English who showed us the torture chamber - they had collected together torture instruments and showed them off in some dark basement rooms.
There are not a lot of tourist sites in the area, but this passed the grade as something to see on the road from Kiev to Lviv.

I spent a month in Dubno, so it was inevitable that I'd go visit the landmark of the city - Dubno castle! While it's nothing spectacular, it does have an intriguing history and is fascinating to see. I didn't really find a place with a great view, as the surrounding land isn't anything but flat, but there were plenty of things to see inside of the castle that made it worthwhile to go to. If you're in the area, check it out. It's not far from Rivne at all, and you can see the charming little town of Dubno.

Quite a well maintained castle with many different services on the territory. When you come in the gates you will see several buildings - on the left side and on the right side. I recommend to hire the guide person but the queue is several weeks ahead so if you plan your visit here upfront make sure you've ordered the guide several week ahead of time. In any case the audio guide is also available.
The castle is not that beautiful like many luxury and damn beautiful castles in the old Western Europe. It is more like fortification building. But still there is a museum with many artifacts and pieces of national art. There is a huge history behind this castle which is so exciting that you do not need the external beauty of the building anymore.
There is also cafes, 3d cinema and even marriage during 1 day services available there.
Please schedule to have lunch or dinner in a wonderful restaurant "Antique House" which is located right on the right from the entrance to the Castle. It is also a hotel there where I recommend to stay.

An attractive castle from the outside, with an interesting mix of styles and - or course - much history. Unfortunately, the interior was closed for lunch when we arrived and we were unable to wait until it reopened. There are renovation works being done to both the castle and the modest-szed grounds. If you are able to visit the interior, you could probably do the entire castle in under two hours.
