We have been fortunate enough to go on wine tours in the UK, USA, Europe and Australia and have to say this vineyard experience was one of our best. From the start our hosts (who I’m sorry to say I can’t remember their names) made us very welcome. We started with a Poss.It a Prosecco style sparkling wine but much drier And as one who isn’t a big Prosecco fan, we bought the white and the Rose versions when we left and which were extraordinarily good value (the rose didn’t last the day). The table was set up for the tasting, a White Etna Bianco, a Red Etna Rosso, an older Red a 2010 Patria and a desert wine. All were exceptional quality and again we bought the Etna Bianco and Etna Rosso and would have bought more had we had space in our cases. Our 2 hosts explained about the wine varieties very well, one even apologised for his lack of English but he explained very well and had nothing to apologise for. We were brought what we thought was the food, some anti pasti consisting of cheese, meats, olives Sun dried tomatoes etc which were given as the pairings. But then we were brought a delicious pasta course, some amazing rosemary potatoes and sausages and the cake to go with the desert wine. Even the desert wine which Laura isn’t a big fan of normally wasn’t too sweet, only for me a later sweetness after drinking and was excellent. The tour included a stunning outdoor event space like an amphitheatre which would be great for wedding or even concerts and a tour of the production facilities including the old original wooden storage barrels. This was the only winery we were able to visit on our weeks holiday, and chosen by our tour guide as we did it with a walk up Etna beforehand and what an outstanding choice.

For those of you that have been on previous tours of a traditional large volume winery, the tour of the facilities will probably not be that exciting. Actually, it was a bit scary for me being on the higher level with the heavy barrels on wooden flooring, flooring that looked like it was constructed with very old wood. The wines were excellent and very reasonably priced. Leave ample room in your suitcase to take some bottles home! Our wine tasting was included as part of a two winery tour with Etna People, and our lunch was provided at the second winery, however, we were provided with an ample assortment of appetizers here to eat alongside the wine. One regret, I wish that we had come during a time of the year to observe the bottling process. Considering the volume of wine produced here, that must be quite a site!

A group of 7 friends did the Mount Etna winery tour with Sicily Active. Our experience at Vini Patria from the very beginning was excellent. The food and wine pairing were delicious and the hosts were very knowledgeable. We would highly recommend this tour and winery.

Dear food and wine lovers,
You visit the cellars to acquire the experience, passion and technique of a passionate winemaker.
Here the production area is desolate, machinery turned off and that's okay, it's August.
The shop is managed only by a young girl who is full of will but not prepared to lead technical tours.
The tour of the cellar €5 each.
What we did was just a tour, a walk among the steel silos and then among the barrels without being able to answer any oenological questions.
Duration 10 minutes of walking.
A disproportionate cost because you go to the cellars to peek and understand the effort and to hear stories about life in the vineyard and then also to taste.
Here, if you want to taste as they say, you have to give him €30.
If you just want to taste 1 wine you have to shell out €3.
Finally I tried to understand, with the same girl, how the shop is organized to be able to buy.
At the entrance there are wines from the sensi line. Why is it called that? Because it's top of the range!
What characteristics do they have?
I don't know?
Cost €20 per bottle
In the second room there are Basalt line wines costing €8.
When asked what the difference is with those in the first room, we are told that there will certainly be some difference to cost so much less.
Second question, can you taste basalt?
No.
Senses only.
Classic method? It is not for tasting because if we open it and don't consume it it will ruin.
What differences are there between the two types exposed?
All unanswered questions.

So dear owner of the cellar.
You may have earned 5x2 = €10 but you have demonstrated that you don't take care of the individual customer who loves wine like you.
Maybe as a Catanian you are passionate, but only about business.
To never again.

Then Patria Winery Tour was excellent - and I highly recommend it. The food provided with the wine tasting was very impressive and went quite well with the broad selection of wines that Patria produces. Clearly, the family of winemakers here are very dedicated to their craft!

A beautiful company, with great history and a particular and unique vineyard. A spectacular cellar, dug into the lava. Huge choice of excellent wines. The tasting accompanied by typical products of the highest quality. The staff is friendly and very kind. A special thanks to Lucia for telling the story of the family and company history.

I really enjoyed taking the tour, tasting and lunch athe Patria Winery. First off though, it is tough to find and GPS will get you lost a few times.

When you arrive there is plenty of parking and the tasting room is beautifully set up. The wines are pretty good for the region and they are very fair in the tasting. I think they do this so you buy more wine.

The tour is excellent and I liked the process of fermentation and the use of steel and oak barreling to build up the complexity of the wine. Their red wines are quite good and their non-alcoholic wine, which is a sweet wine I highly recommend with Asian food.

The tour through the cellar was interesting and you can tell that the new owner put a lot of money into the grounds for special events and weddings. The lunch on the lawn at the end of the tour was wonderful especially on a warm sunny day. It was quite the experience. They give you a lot of food with your tasting and everything was excellent. The chef kept peaking out to see the guests reactions to the lunch. I loved the sausage and the fresh cannoli at the end.

Then they take you back to the wine room and try to close the deal. One person in our party bought six bottles so they were happy. The prices are half of what they would be in the States so it is not a rip off like some wineries are and they will ship to the states for you.

The tour is well worth the time and if you like the whole wine tour experience, it is worth the money especially on a nice day. On a gloomy rainy day, I'm not sure. It is a great day out!
