About
Prohodna is the most beautiful karst cave in north central Bulgaria, located in the Iskar Gorge near the village of Karlukovo. The main sight here are the "two huge eyes" on the roof of the cave - the eyes of supernatural power.

Eyes of God
Sep 2020
Prohodna a.k.a. Eyes of God is magnificent Cave. It's a very huge and not typical cave - it is actually a huge tunnel that goes straight through a hill. The eyes on its top in the middle of it are really mysterious. If you want, you can climb on the walls.

God’s eyes cave near Karlukovo Bulgaria
Aug 2020
Magnificent. Must see and experience. Highly recommended. Be ready with proper hiking boots if you want to enjoy a very steep and rocky walk to the rever on the other exit of the cave . If you are lucky you can spot proper rock climbers and speleologists. (And even a wedding couple )

If you are on the way...
Jul 2020 • Solo
It’s is easy to get there by your own by train but it takes a lot of time. It’s is 40 minutes by foot from Karlukovo train station. The cave is just 100 meters long. So as said, if you are on the way to somewhere else is worth otherwise...

Worth a detour
Jul 2020 • Couples
Larger than expected, yet also easy to reach with parking within 100 meters of the cave entrance and an easy walk into the cave.

We were the only non-Bulgarians, yet is was rather busy with local tourists nonetheless. No issue though, even in this pandemic as the cave is massive and people spread easily.

Worth a smal detour when travelljng between Veliko Tărnovo and Sofia.

Amazing open-air cave
Sep 2019 • Couples
This is a huge bell-shaped cave that must have taken at a time a river through it.
A part of the ceiling has fallen, so now there's plenty of sunlight and fresh air.
Prohodna is easily accessible from a main road and the parking place is close by.
Worth the detour.

Top attraction in Bulgaria
Aug 2019 • Friends
The place is far from main roads, however the visit is definitely worth. There are organised daily trips from Sofia.

The cave is huge, and the view is simply amazing. It actually looks like two eyes. Essential natural attraction in Bulgaria.

Spectacular site
Jul 2019
Stunning cave located around 90 mins drive from Sofia with no entrance fee. Unique in that it has 2 large, oval shaped eyes looking down on you when you are in this massive chamber. A very impressive natural sight that certainly warrants a minimum of an hours exploration. Easy and free parking just a 5 minute walk from the cave entrance. Clouds of butterflies and numerous lizards seen during our walk to the entrance. If looking for a nearby restaurant, Vikki's a mile further north up the main road in Petrevene is the best bet, great value and tasty food. The nearer Rekata seemed to have closed down permanently when we went there.
