It’s is easy to get there by your own by train but it takes a lot of time. It’s is 40 minutes by foot from Karlukovo train station. The cave is just 100 meters long. So as said, if you are on the way to somewhere else is worth otherwise...

We were en route from Veliko Tarnovo to Sofia and did a quick stopover to visit the Prohodna Cave. We were driving and were glad to find that there are adequate parking space not far from the entrance of the cave as well. We took a short 5 minutes walk after parking our car to arrive at the cave's entrance. The walk through the cave was relatively easy and there was a path after exiting the other end of the cave which we explored a bit. The place seems to be pretty popular with the locals as we could see families with kids, as well as climbers and photographers. Glad to have had the opportunity to visit the place during our stay in Bulgaria!

Phenomenal cave to walk through. There were people rock climbing and bungee jumping the day we went. Viewing the 'eyes' from one angle makes it look like they are weeping. Bit muddy and slippery, even though it was very hot and dry outside, of course as it is a cave. Good footwear recommended. Lots of parking and easy to access. Well worth the stop.

We thought the cave was cool, but it only lasted for two minutes. There just wasn't that much to look at. We got a few pictures and hiked around for an hour, but if we had brought our teenagers, they would have killed us. I won't return.

The name of the cave is "Transitional cave" or also known as God's eyes. Transitional as one can easily walk from entrance to exit and vice versa without changing the altitude and God's eyes, because there are 2 wholes on the roof that look like eyes. In a rainy day it looks like tears are falling from the eyes.
Just above the cave is passing the road connecting main cities in the region.
The cave is one of the unknown and hidden treasures of Bulgarian nature.
Entering the arch of the cave entrance one can feel the amazing atmosphere and spirit of the cave. It is like a sacred space, which is difficult to be found. There are no signs to direct visitors. Driving from Karlukovo village towards Lukovit after 2 km on left is the House of the cave researchers. From there is one of the starting points to the cave. There you can learn more about the cave the region, also have a rest and lunch with a stunning view to the Iskar river valley.

Very special place climbers, cavers paradise an great walks fantastic village all for free ! Surrounded by 150+ million year old limestone marble quarry 3km away where near pure white stone is extracted an exported to Greek company for headstones. Rare amphibians live in caves surrounding karlukovo such an underrated place . Easily accessible from Sofia via bus 🚌 or train 🚆 very cheaply indeed or you can just drive well worth a visit.

This is a huge bell-shaped cave that must have taken at a time a river through it.
A part of the ceiling has fallen, so now there's plenty of sunlight and fresh air.
Prohodna is easily accessible from a main road and the parking place is close by.
Worth the detour.
