About
In the heart of the Vercors region, explore this cave hidden within the magnificent Cirque of Choranche. Let yourself drift... The waters of the underground lakes and rivers flood the crystal whiteness of the rock formations with emerald green reflections. The stalactites, called straws are the great sights of this cave: they are very thin, very fragile. There are thousands of them in Choranche which is a unique scene in Europe. During the tour, your eyes may catch sight of a cave dwelling animal which is a survivor from the prehistoric era: the Olm... In the Cathedral Cavern, the new Son&Lumiere is an invitation to dream: let your imagination immerse in the underground world for an amazing show... Choranche's Son & Lumiere show for each tour.

This place is unimaginably good!
The tour was very well conducted, some in English, but the translated guide sheet is all you really need to know.
The caverns are just spectacular. I’ll not spoil it by giving away what they show you, but just to say it’s stunning!!
Go, if you can!

Traveller recommendation - be prepared for a short climb up a steep-ish slope to get there, and 100 steps inside the caverns, which is optional, but shouldn’t be missed!
Also be prepared for some stunning, but concentration-demanding driving to get there.

A wonderful and unique experience! These caves are beautiful, well maintained, and the lightening made it magical. The tour was all in French which was hard for those who don't speak the language but we were with some French speaker friends who helped translate. The "light show" at the end was a bit over the top but cool. If you get cold easily would recommend bringing a light jacket.

This grotte is beautiful. We stopped in with 30 of our closest family and friends as part of our wedding week festivities. (We did a beautiful driving loop from Villard-de-Lans, stopped in Pont-en-Royans for lunch at the Musee de l'eau, and continued on to the grotte). We were there on a weekday and before the busy summer months, so we didn't have any buses or traffic to deal with. Our guide spontaneously offered our tour in English, which was an unexpected and welcome surprise for our guests! This is a very affordable activity and highly recommended. One of the coolest parts of the tour was the cathedral room.

Must see caves in the area.
I did not expect this around here.
Dress warm as cave temperature is 10°C all year.
The road goes relatively high to reach the site, be ready for a drive in narrow mountain roads.
Book online for a 15% discount.
We went on a Monday in August, there was no crowd and very pleasant all the way.

A nice trip to be occupied for 1 hour and a half (guide tour is one hour). From the parking spot, you can see a waterfall. With an extra walk of in total 20min you can walk underneath this waterfall. It's advisable to ask the guide for directions.
Our guide tour was a small group with only 7 people. The guide did a very good job on translating everything in fluent English just for the 2 of us. He took the time to make our visit worthwile.
The caves where overwhelming beautifull but very touristic interior, lights and pavewalk.

We went here with a six and three year old and a five month pregnant lady. So it was not at all strenuous for them although I did end up carrying the youngest for a bit. My other half thinks it is a little more expensive for what it is. It is very much a cave! There are a few nice bits and the music show is novel. The talk was all k french but the guide would have answered in English if we asked questions. We usually hit one of these caves during our summer trip. It was good/ok.

When in The Vercors this has to go top of the list.It is simply a wonder of nature very carefully managed. The stalagmites are amazing but truly awesome are the stalactites suspended like intricate lacework from the ceiling. There are underground rivers and lakes to circumnavigate and to finish off a 100 step climb into the main cavern for a very good sound and light show.I am a 75 year old asthmatic and i was allowed to take my time and it was worth the effort.
The tours are mainly conducted in French but for English speakers they issue you with an explanatory booklet which is worth reading before entry and then you can just enjoy the visual feast.
Good walking or hiking shoes are advisable as is some warm clothing as even on a hot day inside the cave is only about 10.C.
In all highly recommended

This beautiful cave is very suitable for families with young children and old folks too. It is very well organised and each group departing with a schedule timing which makes it enjoyable and easy for the guide to explain to the group. The only downside is that it is French speaking. Though it is only practically so, as I believe majority of the visitors are all French.

Nevertheless, we enjoyed this beautiful cave. The lightings and the guidance through the journey is really enjoyable.

If you are in the Vercors Natural Regional Park, do pay this cave a visit. The Google coordinates is : 45.071955, 5.397329

getting there from villard de lans, the gorges (canyon) road is a very nice drive especially in in autumn where the colors are very beautiful.
the cave itself was very nice, medium difficulty to go from the ticket office to the entrance and inside it is easy to move around, just the 100 steps to get to the cathedral hall with the nice light and sound show.
