Avoid!
Jul 2020 • Solo
Avoid! This bar has been closed for constantly breaking social distancing rules and putting the health and safety of others down just so they can make a profit, keeping the Covid 19 virus alive!

Such a cool wee bar. Individual rooms like your granny’s house. Live music and good craic. “Like being at a wake!” One of the guys said-a good one, a good Irish wake!

Good night

Good night's fun. Very odd little place. Lots of small rooms with live music playing. We ended up moving to the 'outside' area so we could all sit together. Warm heaters and a roof with live music playing. Very busy.

Drastic Deterioration in Service, Clientele & Ambience
Feb 2018 • Friends
I used to be a fan of Tomney’s Bar and reviewed it a few years ago, in 2015, giving it 5 stars and commenting on how I thought it perfect. Unfortunately, things have gone downhill over the last couple of years, to such an extent that a re-review and rating of 1 star is required. The reason being the drastic deterioration in service, clientele and ambience. My last two visits in particular were extremely disappointing.

I visited on Christmas Eve, 24/12/2017, with two friends and found it to be a lacklustre ordeal. Although there were quite a few patrons present Tomney’s lacked atmosphere of any sort. The barman was unwelcoming and rudely ignored us for a full 5 minutes while he chatted to another man at the bar. Very poor customer service. When he did eventually serve us, he somehow managed to knock a glass off the bar, which nearly hit me - and didn’t even apologise! The whole experience was amateurish. We managed to find a rickety table and chairs in a small back room which was dark, chilly and uncomfortable.

Again I visited on 13/01/2018, glutton for punishment that I am! After a meal in nearby Armagh, a couple of people in our party of five wished to go to Tomney’s. I’m all for giving places second chances, but again it was a let down. We couldn’t get seats inside so ended up outside in the freezing, damp beer-garden. A rather good band was playing, but it was far too cold to be outside. The garden was choc-a-block with screaming, loud, extremely drunk young people. The noise levels/ crowds were unbearable and it felt claustrophobic even though we were outside. We ended up obtaining seats in one of the brightly lit, ramshackle, brick outhouses. Extremely unpleasant. We wondered just how safe the building, with its exposed electrics was, and whether the smell of urine was rat, cat or human. Disgusting. One drink was quickly consumed and we left within ten minutes, glad to escape.

Tomney’s has become tacky, overcrowded with loud/obnoxious clientele, could do with a makeover (the old rickety furniture and tacky antiques have had their day) and suffers from mismanagement. To add insult to injury the price of drink has increased dramatically and disproportionately for such a pub, especially in this part of Northern Ireland - after all Moy is a small rural village, not a cosmopolitan city. The prices should be lower. In conclusion, a place best avoided and I DEFINITELY will not be granting them any further chances.
