I have always had a passion for D Day and all of its stories. I spent a truly epic and meaningful day and a half with Adrian, who really made the entire landing and its background come alive! From stories about individuals to grand strategy, Adrian was on top of all of it and the time sped by. This was one of the great experiences of my life - thank you Adrian!!

That we only had two days of Adrian's guiding. He really has a passion for this subject and wants you to get the most from your visit. We were on a Shearings Coach trip of five days duration, and I will come back to that later, (something we heard Adrian say many times during our time with him) he did not want us to miss a thing. We were picked up on the first morning at 9am and it was a long day but seemed to fly by, Adrian included several things that were not mentioned in the Shearings brochure but did not want us to pass a five star attraction. He weaved an interesting and informative tale, including lots of facts and many anecdotes. He did not disappoint the 6-8 die hard enthusiasts on the coach who were hungry for every last details of the landings and those of us who came for pilgrimage and reverence were also well catered for. Both days were full and we returned to the hotel each evening awed.. by what we had seen, standing on a beach is just standing on a beach unless you have Adrian to bring the battle to life for you, and he did. Back to the Shearings aspect of the trip.... as promised.... five days the first day travelling all the way from the UK a long day, days two and three with Adrian fanastic and just what we came for day four optional trip to Bayeux very nice and then a long trip home. Hotels both good but located mainly on an industrial estate... so no wandering in the evenings to a local bar for a Ricard or two, but bars in the hotels were OK as you would expect from any hotel. Drivers were first class all the way and ours Graham who had not done this trip for 13 years, was enthusiastic and accommodating.

Touring with Adrian is like listening to a fascinating audio book. We took the 2 day tour of the 5 Normandy beaches. The description, detail and information Adrian provides stirs the imagination - we got a real sense of the horror, the courage, the planning and luck it took to succeed. Adrian never left us to tour a museum - we could do that on our own - he drove us to all sorts of sites - all the while explaining the German, British and American perspectives. If you have any interest in going beyond what the movies depict, and getting a grasp on how the battle was fought, Captain Adrian Ridley Jones is the guide to hire.

Thank you very much.... it was a delight to guide you and I'm glad you enjoyed the tour. There are actually a few museums that are actually worth a visit as they add significantly to the story but as you can imagine with over 50 in Normandy they have to be (and are ) the very best of the best!

We have recently returned from the "Shearings" tour of the D Day landing beaches and what a brilliant guide we had in Adrian.Over the course of 2 days we covered a large area of the landings and the progress made by the allied forces inland. The tour had a special interest as my father landed on Gold Beach with the Dorset Regiment and Adrian was able to point out the advance inland from the beach that they took. This was my 2nd visit to the beaches but I certainly filled in some of the missing gaps on this tour thanks to Adrian. I would recommend this tour to anyone it is a very emotional standing on the beaches where so many lost their lives and to see the ages of so many young men on the gravestones at the many cemeteries both allied and german.

With my wife I went on a Battlefield Tour organised by Shearing's Holidays. This was our first Battlefield Tour and it will not be the last. Adrian was our guide and has set the standard. Knowledgeable, friendly, approachable and simply the best. May I suggest that he appear on Mastermind with his specialist subject being the D Day landings. I had just finished reading a book written by D Day veterans - Adrian was recounting their tales as if he had been there. Exceptional knowledge and his attention to detail was incredible- the facts not the fiction. Thanks again Adrian for a most enjoyable trip - we will do others but I doubt the guide will match your standard. If you want to know the real story of D Day book a tour with Adrian, an Officer and a Gentleman.

You are too kind. I really enjoy guiding ... its more of a passion than a job so I hope this comes out thereby ensuring you get a better than normal tour of a fascinating area which to do it justice needs at least two days, otherwise one misses so much!
