On our return trip home from Martvili Canyons, we stopped by the Monastery.
Originally constructed in the 7th century and rebuilt in the 10th century, this place of worship is in relatively good shape with a lot of the artwork still visible.
Nice grounds and views also add to the pleasure of the trip.

Beautiful old church in good condition and with a wonderful view over the valley. For the brave a cable car can take you up - it is old - for the lacy a car can take you most of the way.

Located on the highest hill (we had a nice walk, but there's a possibility to get there by car) this monastery was build in 7th century, reconstructed in 10th. There are frescoes dated 14 and 17 century. It used to be a sacret site and used as a pagan cultural center. From the top of the hill you can enjoy breathtaking landscape and beautiful nature. Entrance is free, however ladies should cover their head and legs (if wearing shorts or trousers), but friendly ladies there privide with scarfs.

Martvili Monastery was built late in the 7th century
Some of 14th, 15th, 16th, and 17th century murals are still preserved in the main Cathedral and they represent some of the highest quality craftsmanship in the Georgian histo
