On the day we visited the beach was very quiet. There were some families and small groups of people who were socially distanced and enjoying the good weather. The beach was clean and there was plenty of space to eat a picnic or fish and chips. It was easy to park and we had a very pleasant visit.

This is a lovely clean family friendly place to visit and have fun. This a nice place to relax and unwind on your own or with others. The is a modern toilet block which is clean and well maintained near the RNLI shop. There is a secracated path and cycle way along the beach front and the sea front is disable friendly. There is a play area for children and a wonderful crazy golf course to have fun to. There is a cafe and restaurant along the front for refreshments. There is street parking behind the beach with plenty of spaces. My only disappointment was a dog owner who didn't deal with his dogs dog poop! Other than that I would come back here again.

A long flat beach, great for sandcastles and bodyboarding, but boy is it windy, so hang on to your hats, and take some wind breaks. We pitched a tent aswell which was hilarious in the wind, but really useful once up. Considering the time of year, remarkably quiet, but our approach to the beach wasn’t the prettiest, through a very densely populated residential area, and the steels works is over the very far side of the beach, not near us but plain to see, so perhaps this puts a lot of people off.
All the requisite, shell collecting, sandcastle building, burying children in the sand (we let them out, honest) was done so a good family visit.

This is our first visit, but certainly won't be the last. We were surprised by the glorious sandy beach and the promenade area. Along the prom you will find several places to eat, a lovely grassed area to enjoy a picnic or bag of chips, a splash pool, children's play area and a cycle path. We will definitely be back, especially as there are retail parks and a shopping centre nearby, it's easy and cheap to park the car and the beach is very clean and spacious.

Our 2nd visit to this lovely clean beach , 2nd visit we had a family day out here , our grandchildren of various ages had a good time building sand castles & paddling in the sea . The beach is more of a wet beach perfect for buckets & spades . Clean toilet facilities & close to cafes , restaurants. Also a children’s park & splash park . Would recommend for few hours out with family or just for a lovely stroll.

Great day out only thing missing is arcades and funfair would really make this place special. Otherwise gets a bit boring. And dull for the kids after they had been there once or twice. If there was more entertainment would. Never get the kids out. They have a great beach and it seems wasted. Needs more to keep me going back

Had a fabulous overnight stay with the owners club.
Don’t be put off by the exterior, inside is lovely. Room was clean and perfectly adequate for our needs.
Evening meal was amazing and only complaint-there was too much of it.
We rearranged the lounge in the evening so we could all sit & chat together.
Breakfast was plentiful and the vegetarian sausages actually had vegetables in them ( not meat substitute).
Staff were friendly and helpful. Big car park for us all.

Ten minutes from my house, this is a truly fantastic place, even better when the weather is sunny. Plenty of places to add to it now, cinema, leisure centre, infamous whale and penguins. But of. Course the main attraction is the beach itself, my favourite is ferry bend great for rock pooling and very interesting to see the old pipeline from the bp days

Lovely beach in the shadow of Port Talbot steelworks but don’t let that put you off! 3 miles of Golden sand is plenty of space to lose yourself and to avoid the masses. The promenade is an easy stroll with cafes, play parks and a skatepark too. There is also a splash park but this wasn’t open (COVID-19?).
Parking is ample and very cheap, £2 for all day. A very nice beach with lifeguards and grab some surf lessons while you are there.

Lovely long promenade, free parking, but no actual facilities on the beach itself. Take your own chairs, but the sand is golden and the sea quite far out and only fit for paddling. Very relaxing. Visited several times during my short stay in the town.

Not the whole beach from May to 1st October, just the to end.Rest of the year yes they are allowed everywhere.
It's such a lovely looking beach but I've heard that, due to the power station, the area smells badly of sulphur. How bad is it really?

Are there any restrictions in place for dogs on the beach during August?
Jo-Anna
Port Talbot, UK97 contributions
Hi Rhian,
There is currently an order in effect which covers the Aberavon Beach and Promenade from 1st May - 30th September. This prohibits dogs from entering a designated part of the beach and requires dogs to be on a lead at all times on the promenade; dog owners can be prosecuted for failure to comply with the order.
The Neath Port Talbot local council website has all the info you require regarding this. Unfortunately trip advisor won’t allow me to post a link to it. But if you google it it’s easy enough to find and you’ll have all your questions answered then.

There are lots of children on the beach every time we go there but the sea can often be out quite a bit on times.
For little ones there is also a small paddling pool just off the promenade area.
There are generally RNLI lifeguards around and a Lifeguard Rescue Station situated there .
