I went along to the YMCA Port Talbot Canoe club which runs every Wednesday evening. There were 20 people on the water in a wide variety of ages. The facilities were good as was the equipment. The weather also helped, an excellent opportunity for children especially to have an adventure activity experience in Port Talbot

Fab and very reasonably priced activity for a Saturday morning.
Drop the kids off for an hour or an hour and a half climbing, with safety equipment and proper instructors. They can learn the basics or even hone their skills for a future as an Olympic climber or study international climbing qualifications to become an instructor any where in the world.
Its a fun group where kids can learn, make friends and keep fit and it might just turn into a life long interest in climbing :)
Id recommend it to anyone with youngsters

The YMCA here in Port Talbot boasts arguably the greatest training facility in South Wales for Bouldering and offers great value for money. The moonboard and campus board make for an incredibly physically demanding training session, whilst the Cube offers routes to cater to climbers of all abilities. Furthermore the addition of hangers above the moonboard in order for gymnastic rings to be used offers a great variation in one's training. Also the often quiet multigym offers enough exercises for the climbers of South Wales to get incredibly strong. No doubt we will be seeing some top class boulderers coming through the adventure club set up there in the years to come.

Went to watch the climbing competition there for the adventure club today & it was great to see the smiles on their faces. It is just as good when they take them down to the canoe/kayaking at their boathouse on the docks where they all have fun.

The Cube is available for any intermediate/experienced climber to hone their skills ready for the outdoors or to train for competitions indoors. The routes are colour coded & use the French system. They start at f4 & are varied on a regular basis using some of the top route setters in the country at this time as well as their own trained up setters. They can also do climbing parties here if you prebook.
