I think this place is super incredible; It feels like from an Alphine movie, where you can scroll around and sit on the nice Piazza, looking towards the great surroundings. Especially great when in the winter, Magic expierence

A bustling heart of the old town, some lovely architecture and, in the mornings, local produce stalls. Great coffee places

Spent the day in Domodossola and really enjoyed the Piazza. Happened upon the outdoor market and picked up some fruit and cheese, very reasonable. Wonderful large bookstore with very helpful staff.

A picturesque piazza. It is cool to think it was used to host trade fairs since the Middle Ages, uniting people from all over Mitteleuropa and the Italian Peninsula. Many bars and restaurants around it, where to have aperitivo or taste the local cheeses and salumi.

We arrived late in the evening on a Friday on our way to Milano and were amazed to see how busy the square became - the later in the evening, the more people (mostly young) at different restaurants in the square. Next morning, a Saturday,...More

The piazza is at the centre of the mediaeval part of Domodossola. Many of the buildings started life in the 14th century but have been added to or "modernised" in later centuries. Let's not get too techincal - just sit outside one of the bars...More

There is not much to see or do here. Maybe this is due to the saison. There is no choice of restaurants and shops are closed in the lunch hours till 3PM. It is a quiet square, but picturesque. I understandthat market days are busier!

...what all the fuss is about. Yes, this is an Italian square with cafes and coffee shops. There is people watching involved, but I wouldn't say this is a "must do" or something unique to Domodossola.

Where to go for a Negroni Cocktail (8 Replies)
I will be meeting 2 women that I met via this website for dinner at Trattoria ZAZA at Piazza del Mercato Centrale 26/R, but we would like to meet for cocktails first. Please suggest a place nearby for a great Negroni cocktail. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Gilli's in Piazza Republica a very traditional watering hole! Lovely atmosphere where you can sit outside and watch the world go by (and they make delicious negronis too!) or sit inside

My wife and I are considering renting in the Piazza del Mercato Centrale area. While we have visited this area before we were wondering just how noisy/busy this area. We had just walked on the street in front of the market not really considering renting there in the future..but we do like to be where the action is.

It actually varies from street to street and from block to block. For example, in the Via del Giglio, which feeds into the market from the south, there is constant hurley burley all day long, but it is perfectly quiet at night. On the other hand, the Via San Gallo, which comes into the market from the north, is very lively (read noisy) all day and late into the night. In short, you cannot generalize. If you want to be more specific, you might get more precise information.
