Not as great as it sounds or as it is advertised. Nice views but not nearly a 100 valleys but one long valley. No air conditioning. Packed train. Train is moving very slowly. Second train car remained closed / unused. If you have been on any other train rides through the mountains in Switzerland you can omit this one.

Dear Sir, we are really sorry you did not enjoy your trip. Our railway is a slow line and usually our passengers appreciate this as one of the most beautiful feature of the “Vigezzina-Centovalli”. We would like to verify about the second train car closed, we therefore ask you to be so kind as to send us an e-mail (info@vigezzinacentovalli.com)... More

Travelled on this scenic railway as part of a round trip from Stresa on Lake Maggiore. Started from Stresa station on 10.38 service train to Domadossala then transferred to Centovalli train. very busy but good panoramic windows.for the excellent views. Not impressed with Locarno and the restaurant prices are noticeably more expensive than in Italy. 3 hour relaxing boat trip... More

We caught the train in an underground station in Locarno and made our way to the terminus at Domodossola. The train climbs out of Locarno up into the mountains passing through pretty villages and fantastic scenery, vast gorges and lovely alpine meadows. It stops at lots of stations on the way. It climbs up to 800 metres at S. Maria... More

If you dont feel for driving or just for a day want to look around yourself, this is a nice experience. Domodosolla and locarno are both towns not more than average, although lago maggiore compensates a bit for locarno . Take your own drinks and food as there is no catering in the train.

Lovely views from the train. Would have given this a 5 star rating but for the 1.50 CHF extra charge. Tickets cost 25 CHF each for a return journey...no problem and we paid with a credit card. The ticket office told us what time the train was, so knew which train we were using so why the supplement on the... More

Dear Sirs, thank you for your review. We are sorry about the problem, but the extra charge is required as part of the fare when travelling on a "Panoramico" train and it must be paid in cash equivalence of departure. Hope to welcoming you on board again. Kind regards More

This was a trip we looked forward to but we were bitterly disappointed. It was sold as a panoramic train and boat trip,we were unable to get on panoramic train and were directed onto a second train with no panoramic windows and no air con and it stopped at every station. The return boat trip was a complete disaster, unfortunately the boat broke... Dear Sirs, thank you for your comment. In our timetable we have two panoramic trains scheduled from Domodossola, one at 10.25 and one at 11.25. Sometimes seats on the panoramic trains aren't enough. That explaines the need to add an extra train leaving 5 minutes after, although not panoramic, to guarantee seats for all passengers. We understand the problem with... More

We were traveling from Zermat to Ascona and we had to take this train in Domodossola. We definitely noticed a difference in service when we received an announcement the we would be charged an extra 1.5 CHF because the train apparently had big windows(our car did not). That was the only announcement in English and the ticket checkers spoke none.... More

We took the Centovalli train from Locarno to Domodossola. The journey is unhurried and takes about 90 minutes as you climb up, through the alps and down to Domodossola. You get great views of the mountains, valleys and small waterfalls from the big train windows. The highest point is around Santa Maria Maggiore station which has a nice church and... More

I was on a tour of Italian Lakes and this was included as one of the excursions. I was hoping this would be the highlight of my visit and wasn't disappointed. We travelled on the Panoramico coaches which had windows almost up to ceiling. The only disappointment was that the seating was very cramped with pairs of seats facing each... More

We had done this before with other famous Swiss trains and I should of remembered to do it again. Instead, we took the "Panoramic Train". It was too crowded and there was no way to take pictures while surrounded by the glass. This type of train experience is just not for us. We would choose the slower, local train instead.... More
