The train ride is nice, but it is long especially when you do it back and forth. Currently only half of the seats are available due to social distancing.

The trip is about 2 hours, and it goes through many valleys and villages on both the Swiss and Italian sides. If you are on a panoramic train, there is an additional fee of 1.5 euro/chf paid in cash. A tip: when departing from Locarno, you get a better view if you sit on the left side of the train for the first part and on the right side for the second part.

This narrow-gauge railway runs between Domodossola in Italy and Locarno in Switzerland. The Alpine scenery is absolutely wonderful. It is one of my favourite rail journeys and I can recommend it to any who enjoys train travel and/or great scenery.

Very beautiful scenery on the train going to Locarno. Breathtaking views from high up in the mountains to valleys below with cascading water, streams and pretty villages. The ferry journey back from Locarno is quite long and not nearly so pretty but the trip on the whole is well worth it.

We were going to catch the train - as it was a rainy day and we needed something to do. We got to the station in which the train departed from (check on Google maps) and got down to the station 25 minutes before our departure and the machine said that it would cost 170 CHF for 2 adults and 1 child to go from Locarno to S.Maria Maggiore (an hour long Journey). We then went into the SBB CFF FFS office upstairs and got a discount - roughly 2/3 of the price off. Although the journey is very pretty I do not think it is worth 68 CHF per adult...

Dear passenger, thank you for appreciating our journey. We would like to precise that the ticket for 2 Adults from Locarno to Domodossola cost 54 CHF. Maybe you made some wrong selection at the machine. Is it possible also to buy online from our website vigezzinacentovalli.com, here you can also book your seat. Best regards
