The area is extremely attractive. Enjoy seeing this type of architectural work from the past. The river view is pretty and in the past when in the area nice spot for a picnic. It was cold and raining on this visit and considerable flooding in...More

I guess that as a resident I end up taking our landmarks for granted much like Ottawans don't visit Parliament (and that's way more impressive than a wooden bridge) and yet tourists do flock to it. This one is a rebuilt of the original one...More

The Wakefield Bridge, correctly called the Gendron Bridge, is not only a beautiful sight but also has a long history to it. Over many years, it served to connect the village of Wakefield to Edelweiss, but the current bridge is a replica of the original...More

We tried to drive in to see the beautiful covered bridge at Wakefield up close. But the road access is blocked at the moment. If we had had more time, we could have walked in to see it, though. A lovely sight, stretching across the...More

Was with a friend in Wakefield this summer and went to this bridge. It has a peaceful feeling to it not to mention the historical aspect. Very work visiting while in Wakefield.

It is my understanding that covered bridges are very scarce in Canada and this is a good example of these types of bridges. Apparently built to keep the snow off wagons etc during the winter. The Wakefield covered bridge burnt down and was re-built. The...More

Drove by the Wakefield covered bridge and it was a pretty sight! I don't think I have seen one like this before. Very picturesque but no real place to park and get out unless you want to walk a bit. Can't drive on the bridge.

You can see the bridge in the distance from the centre of Wakefiled and you will just want to visit. By far the best way to visit this amazing bridge is to walk from Wakefield along the old railway track then follow the path past...More

In Wakefield, the Wakefield (Gendron) Bridge spans the Gatineau River at 87.8 metres (288 feet) long, the covered bridge an authentic reconstruction of the historic Gendron Bridge (1915), which was burned by an arsonist in 1984. The project, spearheaded by a local committee that used...More

The bridge itself is probably just an excuse to take a walk across and then take the trail (old railway) to the center of Wakefield. From there you can walk on one of the trails that will take you to the top of the mountain...More
