About
Valtellina is one of the most northerly wine-growing areas of Italy. The vines are grown on the mountain slopes facing south, giving protection and insulation whilst they mature. The first to cultivate vines in Valtellina came from Liguria, (where cultivation is also on narrow terraces), then the Etruscans and Romans. "Heroic wine-growing", we can call like this 'cause here the territory is precipitous and everything is handmade! Alberto Marsetti is a official spokesman about the Heroic wine-growing from 1986. In fact, Alberto form that year, carriers on the work of his grandfather Angelo. We product 500 hl of wine. The most come from the Nebbiolo variety (called Chiavennasca) and from local variety. In the historic center of Sondrio, the wine's mature in barrels and old wooden vats. Just here, originated the two V.S. docg GRUMELLO and LE PRUDENZE, but also ROSSO DI VALTELLINA doc, SFURSAT DELLA VALTELLINA docg and the last born A.R. igt IMPERFETTO, IMPAZIENTE and IMPALLIDITO

We visited the spectacularly underrated town of Sondrio and its surrounding vineyards in mid October, on the same day the vendemmia started (the harvest of the wine grapes).
Afterwards we went for wine tasting at Alberto Marsetti's winery.Their 2019 vino ready to hit the shelves after a 3 year ripening period is fabulously fresh and "spiccato", their Sfursato,Prudence are delicious, yet l loved the ImPerfetto- from 100%Nebbiolo grapes, the Imperfetto playfully says " l'm perfect" and l do agree.

Excellent wine tour
Jun 2020
An excellent tour of the vineyard and the (very impressive) cellars in old Sondrio followed by a tasting of excellent Grumello vines. Friendly, accommodating (in terms of tour timing). Overall, a wonderful opportunity to learn more about Nebbiolo wine making.

Terrific tour, even in the raini
Oct 2019
Daniel told us where to park in town, about a 5-minute walk away. It was easy to find them using Google Maps. Despite the rain, he took us up to their vines and we had a fascinating chat with him about the wines, the terrain, the distinctions between the different names of the areas, and the family that has maintained the location for centuries. This was followed by tasting around eight wines, served with bresaola, crackers, and cheese, in a rather modern tasting room with a nice toilet (appreciated by all four of us!). Daniel was absolutely delightful and easy to understand. His English was much better than our Italian. There is a charge for the tour and tasting, but that's quite reasonable and accepted in today's world. Most of Napa and Sonoma now charge for tasting. We particularly loved their Grumello and Sforzat.

We visited at this vineyard. Their daughter presented very professuinally the vineyard business. We visited in their wine cellar and tasted their red wines (16€/tasting/one person). Location was excellent: cellars and tasting room were just in the city centre, so, you could walk there.

Incredible experience
Jul 2019 • Friends
This was one of the best experiences of our trip. Everyone here was amazing. The tour was really interesting. The wines were great. They taught us a ton about their wines. We have done a lot of wine tours and tastings and this was one of the best overall experiences we have ever had. 10 stars!!!

A highlight not to be missed
May 2019 • Couples
Daniele was kind enough to meet us for a tour of the amazing vineyard, cellar, bottling room, and an amazing tasting. The dedication to making excellent wine is clear from everyone we met during the tour. We had a chance to meet with Alberto and his father, two amazing and passionate men! After a short hike to the top of the vineyard we "walked the vines" then moved through the amazing city of Sondrio to the cellars. Tracing the history of the vineyard through nearly 100 year old casks and bottles from 1913 was amazing.

Of course the end of the tour was the best part, sampling of a large variety of great wines. The unique tasting room, some light snacks, and the chance to sample up to 7 unique products from the vineyard was a highlight of our entire trip, let alone the tour. Be aware, the Marsetti label is available in the US in limited quantities so I urge anyone visiting to buy whatever they can. The issues with transporting them home is well worth the effort to bring home amazing vintages as a remembrance of an unforgettable afternoon not to mention the chance to savor them long after the memories may have faded.

We had a great vacation filled with memories and this one surely was one of the highlights!!! Daniele, Alberto, and everyone else we encountered...you made for the most memorable afternoon we encountered during our vacation! Thank you all!!!!!

The Best Vineyard in Sondrio! With the Best Tour Guide!
Jul 2018 • Couples
After emailing Andrea Pilatti, he agreed to meet us for a tasting on Sunday, a time when all of Sondrio was closed. We met at the cantina and he drove my wife and I up to his vineyards. Andrea was extremely knowledgeable of all aspects of the wine industry. We returned to the cantina to tour the wine cellars built in 500 AD and sampled several wines one more incredible than the next. We sampled grapes from the new harvest and a couple wines from 2007. My wife and I had an incredible time discussing history, politics, and culture with Andrea. We purchased a 2003 bottle of "Grumello Valtellina Superiore," a vintage only available at the cantina. Andrea truly made our experience to this incredible region so memorable.

Winery and Vineyard visit
Jun 2018 • Couples
Myself and my wife went to Sondrio to visit the Alberto Marsetti winery. We were met by Andrea who drove us to the Vineyard where he showed us the vines and explained all the processes to us. It is a beautiful location & well worth seeing . After that Andrea took us to the winery and gave us an excellent tour and explained how the wine is produced . It was very informative and we enjoyed it immensely . Then Andrea took us to the lovely room they have created for tasing their lovely produce. We tasted all the wine with lovely salami and breadsticks , all through Andrea explained the characteristics of each of the wines . We really enjoyed the visit and would highly recommend the tour ! Thanks to Andrea for the great tour !

Beautiful vineyard in Sondrio
Jun 2018 • Couples
My husband and I visited this vineyard as part of a 2 week European interrailing trip. It was actually arranged for me as a birthday gift and it did not disappoint!

We were met by Andrea who was friendly and instantly likeable. The weather was fantastic which was an added bonus because that gave us the chance to have a little tour of the vineyard and find out a bit more about the wines made in this special place.

We were taken to the cellars which we loved, and then on to a tasting. The wine was great quality and we made a note of our favourites. Surprisingly this vineyard makes a white wine which I think is an incredible achievement although it goes almost without saying that I preferred the Reds!

We could have listened to Andrea talk all day, about the heritage of the vineyard and their heroic production methods 😊 Alas we needed to leave straight after our tasting to catch our train.

We left without ordering more wine to take with us, because we still had a week of travels to go and we did not want to be lugging the bottles with us. Andrea gave us a lift back to the train station which was super helpful. We will be ordering a case online when we are home.

I highly recommend a visit to this vineyard.

Great experience
Oct 2016 • Friends
Silvia was an excellent hostess with a lot of knowledge about the area and wine in general. We had a lovely tour of one of their nearest vineyards and their cellar (which is situated in the city), before tasting seven different wines accompanied by local cheese and bresaola. We had a wonderful visit and really enjoyed Silvia's company, she was very easy to talked to and we learned a lot.
