Small island, good for early AM drive around. Lots of really narrow and isolated roads. Interesting drive, circled the island.

Lots of new construction going on. Several nice small isolated beaches. Stopped at an overlook with good view of the bay and Miyako-Jima on the other side. Bought a snack at a small store.

During the drive, spotted a small herd of goats. They were fenced-in in a 100m x 100m hilly rocky area with a lean-to type building for rain cover at the bottom.

This is the place to go for star gazing at night. However do beware of insects and beetles flying around. We drove to 三角点but it was too dark with no street lights so we followed the road all the way down and stopped near a housing estate with yachts docked outside their homes. We stopped there to star gaze. Beautiful night sky but unable to capture using mobile camera.

Sort of the same with all the sugar cane fields except for some crazy local drivers. They will drive very close to your car and attempt to pass you all the time along with honking at you. Also had to sit in traffic crossing the bridge because some guy was driving a tractor across it really slow.

You drive along the long, recently completed Irabu bridge to get here. Some good spots to visit on the island are the Makiyama observatory, shaped liked the grey-faced buzzard, the two ponds almost next to each other at Tooriiike, and finally the beach at Sawada-no-hama with all the rock jutting out of the water.

Great beaches. Some good restaurants. More than its fair share of over-the-top luxury spots. Interesting place.

The bridge is a must go if you are in Miyako island. I went there as a part of a family snorkel tour. Water even clearer in some of the main spots in Miyako. Nice restaurants, too. The island was small but you will need a car. Don't recommend to visit at night. Few traffic directions and you may get lost.

Beautiful and peaceful island. We usually bike loops of the island. Impressive 3.4 km bridge connecting Irabu and Miyako islands. I'm not familiar with accommodation or restaurants on Irabu as we only visit for cycle training. Impressive views and nice beaches.

When you cross the bridge, there is a small beach on the right after you take stairs down. There you will see a perfect spot for sunrise.
