The City of LIER is a real interesting small town in the Province of Antwerpen. Very worthwhile visiting. It has a nice historical city center with a small canal system.

Lovely gothic looking town, charming markets with old men selling birds and animals. A step back in time. A lot of little cafes selling good strong beer.

The charming historical houses, the river Nete that flows through the centre, the quiet beguinage and the Jubilee Clock of the Zimmertower give Lier it’s unique landscape. And if the weather is good, you can end your visit on one of the many café terraces on the pretty squares.

No idea why this one isn't on the tourist hit list. Lier is absolutely charming. A beautiful old town and a fun place to spend a day wandering the streets, sitting in a cafe, trying the local beer. Visit the Begijnhof, take a 45-minute (Dutch language) tour on the river in a converted eel-fishing boat. I've blogged details on Wanderwiles.
