We braved life and limb to climb up Morro do Careca to take the perfect photos of Balneario Camboriu and Praia Brava. The thunder boomed as we exited the car but the lightening and rain started a little later. There were definitely more people coming down than going up. No worries… the steep walk up takes 15 minutes and we were rewarded by the amazing views.

If you are visiting southern Brasil and would like to experience Rio de Janeiro without actually going there, I suggest that you spend some days in Balneário Camboriu. It is a wonderful place, much safer than Rio and yet you have a Christ Statue to visit up on a hill, a tram to take (that kind of reminds you of the Sugar Loaf). And to top it all, you have Morro do Careca, a hill to where you can drive or hike to see the paragliders take off. The view is fantastic and for free. I have enjoyed walking on the beach in Camboriu without fear because the city is not that big. But since it is geared towards tourism, everything is tourist friendly with a taste of small town hospitality, but with the looks of a mega metropolis. You can fly to Navegantes airport from all major airportss in Brasil. A great Brazilian pearl awaiting to be discovered by foreigners.

This place is easily accessible by car from downtown, you can also walk up there. It is a cool place to go if you want to take nice pictures. I recommend early hours just after sunrise.

I recommend going up this mountain by walking in the beach, it's way more fun then getting it there by car or walking in the street

We started the trail at beach. The trail is short and easy. At the top of Careca’s hill there are many beautiful views. Amazing!!!

The Morro do Careca is a small hill that sits between Balneário Camboriú and Itajai. Entry is free.
First the good: The views up there are spectacular - looking north toward Praia Brava and looking south toward Canto da Praia. There is also a parasailing company that will let you do a few minutes of parasailing for a couple hundred reais. There is also a little snack bar with drinks, açaí and restrooms.
Now the bad: Parking is a big headache. There is a small parking lot right at the base of the hill that is flat and allows you to maneuver fairly easily. If you go on a busy day though, you will have to park on the steep and narrow road that leads up to the hill. Getting in and out of those spaces requires the handbrake, and can be challenging. There can also be traffic jams with cars trying to get up and down the hill because the road is too narrow to have cars moving in both directions where one side of the road is used for parking. Thankfully, there are some park service employees that help manage the situation. Give them a few coins on your way out if they help you.

I Thinkk its a MUST to GO place when you are in Balneario. You can go with a tax and then you have to climb some stais. Beautiful view (on a sunny day) Very relaxing. You can take many pictures seeing differnt beaches. Im sure you will enjoy it. I did it.
