This museum is astonishing!! It's so unlike any other museum I've ever been in! It's easy to walk past as the front is a slim "housefront" style, but it's well signposted & clearly advertised locally. I went in simply as a way to kill the time before our train. But was so impressed I ran back out & dragged my (seriously anti-museum) partner in! We had thought I might have to wait outside due the luggage (2 cases & 2 rucsac) but the staff were very kind & attentive & allowed us to bring it in & leave it in the 1st room. There's honestly not enough words to explain how truly astonishing this place is, & I don't wish to spoil the surprises & delight I felt as I walked on through further & further rooms, which in itself was something of a surprise. It's a delightful place. Has a "kiddie corner" & interactive displays & even a "media" spot. Really really worth a look in!!

I visited this museum today with friends. What an interesting place. An usually feature, for such a small museum, were various shop fronts from shops which used to be in the town, a working mini-cinema and an old railway station entrance. If you go, read the description about Claudius’s head smashed off his statue in Colchester by Boudicca and about the Japanese POW who came from Stowmarket and there’s plenty more. You could breeze in and out quite quickly, but if you have more time, I suggest allowing about 90 mins.

Small, quaint and very charming museum. Interesting and informative. We particularly liked the shops, cell and "Cinema". You could easily view the museum exhibits in about half an hour, but we took in one of the DVDs in the cinema so our visit lasted longer. Items on local businesses, artists, etc. Lovely staff.

As mentioned before, check on opening hours as you won't want to miss this wonderful slice of Saxmundham history - beautifully and creatively displayed. The lovely guides told us that the cinema does actually screen films - which would be an unusual experience in such a tiny theatre! Don't miss the gaol in which a wretched prisoner tells his tale of romance, infidelity, revenge and retribution!!
