My first experience with Indonesia was Bukit Lawang, and it was the most beautiful trip in my 6 month journey! To see the orang-utans, was one of my dreams. Josef is a very helpfull, friendly guide. He helps you with everything you need.

We had a really nice trip! And learned a lot about the jungle. We slept 1 night in the middle of the jungle what was actually quite nice. In the morning we woke up and went for rafting.

Josef and his laughter, enthusiasm and knowledge of the jungle made my 2 day trekking in Bukit Lawang so much fun. During our trip we spent the first day trekking much of the day stopping to see 7 orang utans (2 babies), gibbons and many other joys of the jungle. We then slept overnight near the banks of the river where our chef cooked up a delicious dinner and breakfast. Josef and Lili (our guides) were ready with every game/card trick/story/song imaginable to keep us all entertained. The next morning we enjoyed a trip upriver to the waterfall before then rafting back down to Bukit Lawang. Thank you for everything!

My wife and I went to Bukit Lawang for 3 nights. We didn't have anything prearranged or booked, so when we arrived via shuttle bus we walked up the road/sidewalk for a while until we found Rainforest, saw the rooms and stayed there. We knew we wanted to go jungle trekking for one day, maybe two days, so we talked with Rainforest about getting that arranged.
Luckily, Rainforest has a relationship with Bukit Lawang Holiday. My wife and I chose to do a 2D/1N jungle trek and we were paired with a nice couple from Australia. We met our lead guide Josef and another gude named Henry. Josef has been a guide for a few years and he made the experience very comfortable, informative, safe, and genuinely worthwhile! He honestly made our trip to Bukit Lawang worth it. He had great knowledge of the jungle, the flora, animals, local industries (palm oil & rubber) and local people.
We didn't book ahead of time, but I'd suggest booking with Josef before arriving to ensure you get a nice guide who cares deeply for the jungle and respects the wild orangutans and flora. My wife and I really want to come back for a longer trek, maybe 7-10 days with Josef from Bukit Lawang up to to Aceh area.
The 2D/1N trek itself was great. We ate delicious fruit for snacks and upon arriving at camp we ate a fantastic dinner with plenty of water. A little pillow and sheet was provided for sleeping, along with tea a few times. A highlight was swimming in the nearby waterfalls and then rafting down the jungle river back to Rainforest in Bukit Lawang on day 2. Another highlight was playing games and learning tricks from Josef at night in the tent. It was fun! Overall one of the best experiences we've had in nature.
As Josef says, "don't try, don't know".
Thanks Josef for everything you did during our stay in Bukit Lawang. You're awesome!
See you again-

I was taking my 5 city friends from Jakarta to have fun in Bukit Lawang village. In a short time research, I found BL holiday and did not regret. We went to Orangutan feeding point in the morning, and continue approx 5 hrs trekking around Mt. Leuser forest area. We seen many things and our guides (Joseph and Erwin) explained all clearly. They are very patient and polite, taking care all girls in the forest. At the last hour we do swimming in the small waterfall and playing Tubing (kinda rafting but made from 4 tied wheels). Sadly, the game not include helmets for safety items). Tubing is our favorite games. To bad we only spent half day there. Next maybe will stay.

My wife and I spent around a week in Bukit Lawang. We met Josef on during the long walk up the hill and he told us he was a guide and offered to carry my wife's bags, showed us around and took us to the guest-house he works for, it was full so he went to the effort of finding us a nice place to stay. We met up later and had a chat over a coffee. We arranged a day trip into the jungle and it couldn't have been better. We saw lots of Orangutans and also a number of other species including gibbons. Josef was professional and extremely patient, taking time to explain things to us and giving us lots of rest time, at no point did we feel rushed during the trek. Something that I really appreciated was that Josef generally cared for the well being of the Orangutans and also for the surrounding environment. Would 100% recommend to everyone!

All the guides will tell you they're like Mowgli, but Josef definitely was. We saw twelve orangutans in one day, several of which were wild, and Josef was very happy for us to just stand there for ages gawping or do more walking as we wished. My only regret is that I didn't have longer to spend in beautiful Bukit Lawang - there's more to the jungle than orangutans. And I have deducted one point because some of Josef's riddles are still driving me up the wall. Where IS Johnny?!?!??!? Aaaaargh.

Joseph is the best guide you could find in the whole indonesian forest !
If you want to experience the true jungle, to understand the forest, to see the Orang-Utans, to feel the nature and to speak with a local, this guide is for you.
I had an amazing experience with him, the kind of souvenir that will be in my head for ever.
I really deeply recommend him.

This was one of the most amazing experiences of our 4 months in SE Asia!! Josef is a very good guide who can tell you so many things about the nature of the jungle. You can see the animals in their natural habitats. We were able to see an orangutan eat from a termite hill and it was really cool. Josef has soo much information to share and he really cares about the jungle and wildlife. It was a really good experience and so nice to finally meet someone who cares about nature and the experiences of people who visit for a sustainable eco friendly future. Josef was a real inspiration and an amazing guide through the jungle. We did a one night trek through the jungle and my partner got sick in the night. Josef was able to take his mind off it and keep everyone's spirits up until we returned to the hotel. He really went the extra mile the whole trip with flowers and fruit at every meal. It was such a special and memorable experience. I'm glad we went with Josef.

Josef is hands down the single greatest tour guide I have ever met, and an incredible person to top it off. He truly cares about the environment, and was the only guide I saw that refused to feed the animals human food in order to help keep them alive for future generations. He was extremely knowledgable of the jungle, and entertained is and had us laughing throughout the whole trek. Everything was taken care of and Josef seemed to be able to anticipate all of our needs and concerns. He even went as far as gathering and crafting gorgeous fruit baskets for my girlfriend and I as a desert after dinner and as an addition to breakfast. Because of Josef my time in Bukit Lawang was truly spectacular. He became a lifelong friend. Thank you for everything Jose, we will be back one day, that's for sure!
