The Leshan Giant Buddha is located near the city of Leshan in the southern part of Sichuan province in China. That's why people call it Leshan Buddha. This stone statue was carved out of a cliff face between 713 and 803. It is 233 ft tall.
You can have a close look and burn incense like some Chinese by walking down and up a few hundred steps or take a 30 minute boat tour. You can take some nice photos from afar and save your energy for other attractions. I picked the second one, touring by boat.

There are two ways to go - hike or boat, we did both and well worth it. The boat is a quick trip and you don't stop long. The Hike is a long way but you can take your time, huge crowds though.

We came here on the last day of a week long ceremony and it was super crowded. It was a 45 hike with a 2hour wait. We opted to pay $10USD to hop on a ferry/boat to float by to see the structure and take pics. It was an amazing site. Just to see all the people hiking, weaving the mountainside paths to get there was great to see. This is one for the bucket lists.

The statue is OK but it must have been really impressive when it was built a thousand years ago. One of the paradigmatic examples of rock-carved Buddha's, especially after the Taliban destruction in Bamiyan. Lots and lots of tourists. The best view is from the river; the boat ride from Leshan is enjoyable.

After hiking 12km, climbing two mountains and walking non stop for weeks, I didn't know if my legs could take anymore. When I saw the way down I thought I can do this, the long line of people made the journey slow and doable. It was great seeing The Giant Buddha from the feet up. I just took my time and enjoyed the view on the way back up the stairs to get back out.

This is the tallest Buddha in the world. We took the boat trip. It was foggy, so the picture did not come out perfect. It would be nice to actually go there to experience the size. I was told that 100 people could stand on his palm.
