A Pilgrimage
Jan 2021
After 16 years, on second attempt we did find the Museum open in Kausani . It is a must for Hindi literature aficionados .
Though it is maintained by a trust , it shows lack of proper maintenance . It lies 100 mts down through a narrow lane , next to Sagar Hotel . Old people may watch out as the climb back could be strenuous .

I have visited this museum twice in Alomra city. It have free entry and mainted good. This museum has collection of ancient God and Godess idols, few are from 9th century. Good collection of copper, gold coins and different country currency. Kumaon rutual & marriage ceremony decoration art etc.
It is just opposite of Alomra-ISBT. It has worth to visit if you love to see ancient collection of Art & Sculpture.

Small but an Eye-Opener

I felt lucky to visit the said museum due to its association with the name of one of the great sons of Almora. It is situated on the busy Mall Road has a very good definitive collections of Kumaon in particular starting well from antiquity. The way of life aptly displayed, but was amazed to see and unique coinage collection which would even have made any well known museum proud to be its owner. Good photo display.
My only request to the administration that either come out with booklet about the display or allow still photography at a reasonable price to attract more people as very few people are even aware of its unique display. Otherwise the memory will fade out within a short period.

It is one of the popular tourist destinations in Almora city. It was built to dedicate Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, a freedom fighter. The museum possess a varied and good collection of ancient antiques which date back to the Katyuri and Chand dynasties that ruled Uttarakhand for years. The museum also houses a good collection of an ancient form of Kumauni paintings which are called Aspen in the museum. These paintings are a reliable and good source of information for research on Uttarakhand’s culture and history.

a waste of time
Jan 2017 • Couples
this temple is located on the mall road in Almora . entry is free .
no photography is allowed.
it has 2 halls . One has a collection of traditional APEN paintings & hallway has old photographs & 2nd hall is dedicated to Govind ballabh pant & his family .
this museum lacks maintenance.
TIP: this museum is located near Khim singh Bhim singh Rautela mithai shop , popular for authentic bal mithai & khoya singhori - barfi wrapped in mehul leaf - a local delicacy of ALMORA.
