Karkotak Trek
Mar 2021 • Solo
The trek up to the mountain top to the temple dedicated to Nag Devta is fairly arduous with steep, narrow winding walking trails covered with dry leaves and grass which makes it slippery adding to the challenge of the climb. It takes a little time for beginner trekkers to get the rhythm and tempo to remain steady and keep the balance. It requires one pointed attention to the trail and chanting the chosen deity's name or anything else to remain consistent. However once the flow is set it is a delight to walk through the forest. The senses are tantalized by breathtaking views, music of the birds, the aroma of trees , leaves, earth, the feel of the tree trunks, the soothing cool water from the roots of trees. It is what the Japanese call 'forest bathing'. It is cleansing at all levels leaving one calmer and happier.
Once atop the hill at the Nag Devta temple it is peaceful, serene and cool, a blessing from the deity there. The view is mesmerizing and the simple hill folk are utterly charming, friendly and warm.
If fond of trekking, it is trek worth doing. It takes approximately two and a half hours to three hours for beginner trekkers.

Good for trekking
Jan 2019 • Friends
Isolated from the crowd, quiet location, serene view of the Bhimtal lake & town.
Mostly covered with clouds & fog, it was awesome spending little 'me time' & an empowering trekking experience!
Good place to go to for trekking. Nice all round view of whole of Bhimtal and also Haldwani is visible from the top. Not for children and old age people as climbing can be bit difficult.

a small temple, but at a beautiful picturesque location. Need to trek to reach the place. But once you reach there, you will never regret your decision for hard trek.

I visited this temple alongwith my girlfriend. The trek was very good. It is on top of a hill, which is the highest point in Bhimtal. Amazing experience. :-)

Hiking Trip to Karkotak Temple
Dec 2015 • Friends
We visited Karkotak Temple (Temple of the Snake God and said to be the younger brother of Sheshnag). The temple is atop a hill (the highest in Bhimtal nearly 6000 Ft). It was a steady climb (doable for all as we had a 12 year kid with us who infact did excellent) of nearly 3 KMs from a point on Bhimtal Naukuchiyatal Road (took two hours for us as we were on a hiking trip and were carrying our backpacks). All along the hike you get views of Bhimtal. Once you are at the top you get almost 360 degree views (do not expect a lot as you are only at 6000 Ft). It is a good place for camping as well which we did. The next morning we visited the Temple and paid our respects. I was told that they even have a room which they can open for guests who wants to stay there for the night. The Temple also has electricity point which one may use for charging cell phones etc. Overall a good visit.
