I visited ashram many times by tanga and auto, it is very near to Shirdi. Before 1990 there was big dog in the ashram, it uses to appear at the time of harati and was visible after that, now the statue of the dog is still visible for pilgrims. It is my pleasure to visit.

About 5 KM from Shirdi. The Sakori Ashram is where Upasani Maharaj. Upasani Maharaj was one of the staunch devotees of Sai Baba started living in Sakori on instructions of Sai Baba from 1917. Upasani Maharaj Built a cage there in which he lived for over 13 months. The cage is still there. The ashram is well maintained and give a glimpse of life of Upasani Maharaj and Godavari Devi, who was staunch disciple of Maharaj and who managed the ashram after Maharaj. Must visit

This place warrants a visit atleast for all Sai devotees and who have read his Sai Charit. The significance of Upasani Maharaj and this ashram will then be easily understood. Clean and cool.It is well maintained and like the main shrine gives a very spiritual feeling.

just don't visit this ashram, there is not much to do here, you just go in , roam 1-2 floors and come back. A bit tiring.

Heard about this place from a friend and visited during the journey from Shirdi to Meherabad. A very friendly and peaceful atmosphere. The feminine essence of this place lends it grace and charm. Wonderful to spend some quiet time.

Upasani Maharaj Ashram was the abode of a saint by name Upasani Maharaj. He was an ardent disciple of Saibaba. This ashram is situated off the Shirdi-Ahmednagar in the State Highway. It is just about 4 km from Shirdi close to Rahata where Baba was visiting often. The samadhi of Upasani Maharaj is located in this premises as such it carries his name. The normal visiting hours are between 5 am to 10 pm but pets are not allowed.
Shri Upasani Maharaj was born on 15.5. 1870 at Satana village near Nasik in Maharashtra. He came to Shirdi on 27.6.1911, at the age of 41 years and stayed at Lord Khandoba Mandir, for four years with Mahalaspati, the priest of the temple, and later stayed for 4 yrs with Saibaba for his health cure and attained self-realisation. He then stayed at Sakori on Saibaba`s direction where he made young spinsters (means kanyas or Bramhacharins) as his disciples. His disciple Shri Godavari mathaji succeeded him. The ashram at Sakori has been an example for a revolutionary incident that it was here the ladies were/are allowed to learn Vedas and perform yajnas as it is going on uninterruptedly even today. This is actually a hermitage for Bramhacharins (spinsters) to learn Sanskrit language, Vedas and perform puja and yajnas accordingly.
The samadhies of Upasani Maharaj and Godavari Matha are at the main building called ‘Zopadi’ and it is a large place with havankund(place meant for doing yajna) started by Saibaba and as at present yajnas are performed according to Vedas, seven times in every year during important festivals.
