- BrakiWorldTravelerBelgrade, Serbia17,362 contributionsBest attraction in VloreVlore (Valona) is primary a big holiday resort and hasn't got much other to offer its visitors. However, this monastery is a terrific place to visit and absolute best thing to do there. It's set in the city's northern outskirts, by the sea in a lagoon on a tiny island. Have in mind you need a car to reach it and the road leading to it is pretty narrow. There's no parking place there, but you can leave your car by the side of the road as everybody else. A winding wooden bridge leads to the island where's the monastery. The 13th c stone monastery is dedicated to Virgin Mary, very nice both inside and outside. TIP: when in the area there are nice beaches on the road leading to the monastery, you'll see a lot of local's cars there.Visited August 2020Written September 10, 2020
- KarenBonavita211 contributionsInterior of monastery is nice, butWell, I wouldn’t make this a specific destination or go out of my way to see this. The wooden bridge to walk out to it is unique, but it’s over water that unfortunately looks contaminated and smells depending on wind direction. From the actual wooden bridge, you only see the rear of another unattractive building. Not until you finish walking or stop to the right to a platform do you see the monastery. The drive to the monastery itself has pretty pine trees but there is trash everywhere - everywhere you look. The interior of the tiny monastery is attractive and peaceful.Visited June 2021Traveled as a coupleWritten June 3, 2021
- Johny DBelgrade, Serbia6 contributionsMonestery under bunkerOrthodox Monastery, once Greek but today Albanians insist it's Albanian Orthodox even clearly you can see Greek letters on building. Nice hour tour. Behind wooden bridge on the way to monestery, you can see bunker facing monestery.... is it there to protect monestery or... I was searching for similar bunker in front of the mosque in the Vlore center.Couldn't see oneVisited July 2021Traveled soloWritten October 21, 2021

The small island covered in pines, hosts a 13th century byzantine Monastery of St. Mary. To get to the monastery you have to follow a wooden bridge (270 meters). Ambient interior. The whole area is very picturesque, especially at sunset.

There is a new wood bridge that brings you to the island to visit the Monastery and for those who want more adventure they can go into the forest of the island. You can ride even a bicycle to go on the island. There is a very old Manastiry.

Historic monastery 20 minutes by car from Vlore. The monastery is situated on a small island. Appropriate and respectable clothing is required.

The monastery itself is a beautiful building on a small pine island accessible by a long sinuous pedestrian bridge. The road to get there, however, is horrible: rubbish absolutely everywhere, potholes, slums. We almost turned around but glad we didn't as the monastery was gorgeous.

My husband rented a car and we went to Zvernec Monastery witch was not very far from our hotel. The location is lovely, the monastery is on a small island and to get there must cross a nice bridge. The place is just perfect for photo shooting!

The monastery is nice, the boardwalk better, but anyway the beaches and bars along the way to get there are even better!

Beautiful little bridge to the island and then you can go into the small church and go on a short walk on the island, nice views of the lagoon and nice drive through the forest to get there!

It is a moderately small monastery but rich in history. It is surrounded by great nature. Great when you want to be away of busy streets and the noise of the citie.s On the negative side in my last visit the bridge was not in a good condition, I was surprised because in my previous visit 3-4 years ago was in very good condition. Anyway, if you are not from the area I suggest to ask people from the area if it is fixed or are other alternative ways for visiting (a few hotels offer their own tours or are involved someway with the tours)

The Monastery of Zvernec is the most important cultural monument in the region of Narta. It was built in the thirteenth century in Byzantine style and is dedicated to St. Mary. Near by is a wonderful beach, the road to the beach is not in good condition but is possible to go even with a small car.

Io ci andrò in agosto. Grazie mille.
