About
Venture out onto a viewing platform to take in the beauty of The Blue Eye, a natural spring with vibrant blue waters so clear you can see all the way to the bottom. Swimming is prohibited, allowing you to take some stunning photos. The lighting in the early morning is particularly magical.
The spring is an easy hike from the parking area on paved roads—enjoy the walk through lush vegetation along the way and refresh at the small cafe before you make the return journey back to civilization. Visit during spring and autumn for fewer crowds.

- The Balkans and BeyondGlasgow, United Kingdom37 contributionsBeautiful but busySyri i Kalter, or the Blue Eye, is also within easy reach from Saranda. This natural spring, of unknown depth, produces ice cold water even in the height of summer. This natural phenomenon is strikingly beautiful, mystical and not to be missed. However, the summer months are unbearably hot and both locals and tourists flock to dip in the icy water making it quite crowded. Spring or autumn might be a better time to visit, given the option. It is possible to arrive via public transport from Saranda but keep the season in mind. During the summer months, the mercury can hit 40°C and the minibuses are not air conditioned. They are often quite cramped and the breeze from the window is still warm and sticky. Our bus driver even kept stools to put down the aisle when more passengers boarded. This journey is an adventure in itself but it is a part of Albanian life that is worth experiencing.Visited August 2019Written June 10, 2020
- Sam LDurres, Albania1,641 contributionsThe Blue EyeAn interesting upwelling of frigid water that resembles a blue eye. The water is a spring that comes from deep inside the ground resulting in a beautiful clear lake. There were many people disrobing to brave the clear and very cold water.Visited July 2020Written July 24, 2020

The eye itself and the surrounding river are absolutely stunning. The water is very clear and there are lots of frogs, fish and dragonflies in the area. We arrived quite early (around 10am) so got there just before the crowds descended but it would be hell at peak times. The viewing area and tracks are quite small and as it was we had to wait 10 mins or more for the instagram queens to take their 200 selfies. Also, despite there being a few bins the surrounding area is covered in litter. Who goes to somewhere as beautiful as this and drops litter?1 I picked up at least 5 plastic bottles, several cigarette packs and a flip flop (!) from the viewing area itself! Also, there is no toilet (unless you buy something at the restaurant)

A bit overrated. It is nice, but not something unique. Coming by the macadam road (2km) one might consider to be "getting in the nature mood", however infrastructure around the spring is damaged (the little bridge is like something from Indiana Jones films, platform above the spring is broken). Garbage nearby doesn't contribute to the whole picture. Just to mention that we visited very early (7 AM), there was no crowd (mentioned in some ratings), and the nearby restaurant (which seems to be very nice place) was still closed.

We had such a good experience at this tailor. We came here and just wanted to buy one shirt per person but ended with 5 trousers and 6 shirts - all without feeling pressured. Chung was such a nice person and made the clothes exactly as we wanted it to. We would highly recommend this shop and we will probably keep in touch with them overseas if we should need tailored clothes again!

Beautiful lake. Clearly building a permanent car park and turnstiles for visitors. Bit of a walk down to the lake and very exposed to the sun though there are tree saplings which may provide shade eventually. Shame the officers are not concerned with the swimmers in the lake despite the signs. Good wildlife too.

I was really disappointed to see this billed as a top rate attraction. Albania has some amazing history and natural beauty and, while this is pretty, it's very overrated and I think a bit 'emperors new clothes'. They are building a large road and double pavement with paying booths so clearly going to cash in on it even more soon.

Maybe it was that we went in low season, in November, but this place was desolate and we had two stray dogs for company. There was a lot of construction nearby which made the path muddy and the area uglier than it should be. The color of the water was interesting, but not as remarkable as we had expected.

The blue eye is a majestic place, although quite overcrowded at the height of the tourist season. Thee water is crystal clear and the spring emerging from the depths an impressive sight. This is an important area for biodiversity, hence important to protect. The restaurant right next to it however is an embarassment for Albania. Albania, overall, is a very welcoming place for tourists, but this restaurant definitely hampers that reputation. I would suggest bringing your own food and avoid waisting your money there. The waiters are unhelpful at best, and the food is poorly cooked and poor quality. The vegetables were not fresh.

The place is amazing. Simply amazing. Appart from the running water you can also do some trekking, we were walking around 1h and back and still had path through the forest.
The bad thing is that is completely crowded. We arrived at 10 and it was full of people. We left at 13 and it was even more crowded. People even go with electric skate till the blue eye itself and park it close to the water...too much i think.
As most of the people just go for the pic and leave, the trekking is quite nice, you go alone and silent :)
The place has a big parking site that cost 200lek every 3 hour, and getting to the site costs 50lek/person.
It says that swimming is forbidden but everybody swims, or put their feet into the water (a bit cold but nice).

If you like nature, water springs, you should visit Blue Eye.
Sometimes in high season, there can be a crowd, but in low season you should not worry so much.
When you turn from the "main" road you will drive on very bad dirty road with lot of sharp stones for 2 km.
Entrance is 200 Lek and parking included on the dirty road.
There is a couple of souvenir shops and 2 restaurant close to the Blue Eye in the Blue Eye Forest.
Water is cold and constant of 12 C, but nice to visit.

Was just there 3 weeks ago. Do not waste your time. 1) Its a long drive to get there. 2) You have to walk over 30 min. from the parking lot to get there . 3) When you finally get there you walk out on a platform and look down and say "is that it? You won't spend longer than 10 min. (maybe not even 10 min.) looking at it then your back waling to your car for 30 min. There is noting else to see or do there except a gift shop and a nice lake for viewing at the top near the parking lot.

Buon divertimento
