The eighteenth century castle Château de Gratuit is surrounded by a water channel. But in fact there are remains of the castle. We did not have enough information about this place, so we were hoping to visit the medieval castle, not its ruins. Despite this,...More

Lovely ruined castle with a moat. You can climb up the tower and get beautiful views. It's just outside the cathedral town of Coutances.

Great Chateau to explore in. One part gives you the history and how they have restored the place and in the restored part there was an exhibition of paintings and sculptures which were nice. The kids enjoyed exploring in the callers and up the old...More

This place is easier to find than we had expected! Near the village of Gratot, 4k north west of Coutances, the towers are easy to spot from the road. There's a large free car park, toilets, reception with multi-lingual guides and an admission charge of...More

Fantastic place! You can wander and climb all over this stunning castle. We were told to be careful of slippy steps and low ceilings but this just added to its charm of not being restored to death! Great information booklets available in many languages.

This is something slightly different, a ruin as opposed to some of the overpowering French chateaux that you can visit, charmingly set in the countryside and surrounded by a moat. Best to visit late on a sunny summer's afternoon!

small fun attraction with low cost for entry but no staff watching over you so can have fun; good art exhibition with art to buy.

30 minutes and you've seen it... Most of the Chateau is in ruins though the setting is good and children would probably enjoy the visit.
