The best way to enjoy this visit is have atleast two days full residence at the sanctuary to experience this unique stay near back waters where migrating birds nest seasonally. Really serene and green-all-around. carry mosquito repellers in case you need it.

The kind lady who gave us the tickets told us that the monsoon is nesting time for the birds. She explained the trek route nicely. however, there were no guides on the way. A guided tour would help spot more birds. The heat, humidity and the mosquitoes got the better of us. The butterflies were a nice sight. The herons... More

It is a long walk for nothing. We went early in the morning but could spot no birds. Finally just as we were fed up some local invited us for a boat trip at 300 rupees. He looked so old and frail we did not bargain. He slowly rowed the boat and we did see some birds but nothing great... More

U have to walk almost 3 km one side to see the birds and then walk back 3 kms to reach back to exit point. There are lots of birds but its not worth walking so much. Most of them will be visible while taking boat ride in lake.

Great walk amidst nature.Be prepared to walk. Please dont litter the place with plastics.View from watch tower is stunning.Dont expect birds to come calling. Please look out for them.Binoculars really help.KTDC boating servi ces inexpensive and safe.THey start from the bird sanctuary entrance itself.Dont take risks with private operators. The elderly and very young may find the walk tedious.Plan accordingly

Staying adjacent to the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary at Waterscapes, the walk to the bird sanctuary was but natural. So early morning I walked into the sanctuary from the adjoining gate of the resort. The month of May, I knew, is not the time to get migratory birds. So I walked in with little expectations on the trail created for moving... More

I've seen better bird sanctuaries. But having travelled to Kumarakom, this is a place that'll help you spend some of your time in a leisurely manner. You have to be there at dawn - or dusk - to see any birds worth watching. The birds fly out for the day, so don't waste your time during the day!

It's a much-hyped and can be very disappointing bird sanctuary. Of course seasons and time of day matters in sighting birds but this is one place that is not well kept and does not live up to the hype. A better bird sanctuary is there in Thattekad, which is hardly 100 km from here. Salim Ali had once rated Thattekad... More
