Ettumanoor Mahadeva temple is one of the ancient Siva temples in Kerala.
The temple is located around 11 KM from Kottayam.
This is one of the three ancient Siva temples in Kottayam district.
This temple is the house of beautiful architecture all-round.
The main deity here is Lord Shiva.
This temple is famous for the ever-glowing lamp (keda-vilakku) which is located at the entrance to the main temple.
The temple premises are maintained neat & clean.
This is a house of old traditions.
One can definitely feel the strong positive vibes once he is in front of the sanctum sanctorum. The lingam here is very powerful.
Once we are in front of Lord Siva here our eyes refuse to leave the sight.
The temple premises is quite large with separate sanctums for Lord Krishna, Lord Ayyappa etc.,
As per a strong belief, if one can complete the darshans of the three Mahadevas, in sequence, starting with Vaikom (at nirmalyam), Kadathuruthy and ending with Ettumanoor before Ucha Pooja he will be a blessed person. .
Overall, it was a great & pleasant experience with unforgettable inner satisfaction.
One cant miss this great temple if he happens to be in Kerala.

The Temple dedicated to lord shiva "Ettumanoorappan", is Kottayam district... The best time to visit here is during the annual temple festival when you get to see the "Azheraponanna" - Seven and A Half Gold Elephants on display.

There are specific times that one can go in. Locals do think highly of it. Men have to remove all clothing above the waist to go in. You can’t wear shoes but the stone walkways were hot!

Ettumanoor Mahadeva temple is an ancient Temple, heard a lot about from my parents & grand parents. A very powerful lord Shiva, you can donate oil and other pooja materials as per your wish. Be ware of oil spillage in around. A divine experience and a must visit. Apart from this it is also very essential to visit two more famous shiva temple locations near by Vaikattappan & Kadutharthy which is not more than 20 km approx vicinty and will take not more than 15 to 20 mins by drive, but it is said that you have to visit all the three locations to get the blessings especially Kadutharthy temple, which has both Ettumanoorappan and Vaikattappan idols.

Ettumanoor Mahadeva temple is an ancient Shiva temple in Kottayam, Kerala, India. It has brought glory and fame to the place. Myths have it that the Pandavas and the sage Vyasa had worshipped at this temple. The name of the place has its origin from the word 'manoor', which means the land of deer. The present temple building, with its gopuram and the fortress around it, was reconstructed in 717 ME (1542 AD). There are Dravidian mural paintings on the walls inside and outside of the main entrance. The fresco of Pradosha Nritham (Dance of Shiva) is one of the finest Wall painting in India. There is a golden flag staff inside the temple. On the top of it is the idol of a bull surrounded by small bells and metal leaves of the banyan tree and in terms of architecture this temples stands out to be an ultimate testimant for the vishwakarma Sthapathis, for their engineering skills.

The temple of Ettumanoorappan has a special sanctity and glorious history of its own. Owing to the potency and all prevading power of the “Aghora Moorthy” the Temple stands first among the pIaces of worships and pilgrimage in South India arid it attracts devotees not only from India but also from abroad.
Legend

This “Aghora Moorthy” is said to be grave in nature, Saint Khara left the place after he had installed the idol In the present position . For many years it remained quite unknown and this place became a dense forest.

A wonderful temple to visit. Near Vaikom. A continuously glowing lamp for several years is there in the temple. Lot of paintings you can see in walls. It is believed that Pandavas and Saint Vyasa worshipped here. Get the blessings from Lord Shiva

This shive shrine one should visit along with the other two namely Kazhuthiruthi and Vaikathappar (both Shiva temple) in one go or stretch. That is possible if you start in the morning around 6.00 am then you can have darshan at all the three temple before 9.00 am i.e, before the temple closes for the morning session. These temples open at 5.30 am and close at 9.00 am. It is better to finish the darshan in the morning time.
