The mountain gate is beautiful. It looks like a fairy tale. As you enter, there are huge and long-lived cedar trees, and it is overwhelming. We head to the main hall with a cord tied to a long-lived cedar tree. It is a relatively steep stairway and is slippery, so be careful. It is an open temple.

It is several hundred meters west along the prefectural road from Ryozenji Temple, the first of the Shikoku 88 Fudasho. Along the prefectural road, there was Gokurakuji Temple, which was the second fudasho.
Gokurakuji stood in a quiet atmosphere, surrounded by mountains. There are several halls in the temple grounds, but the one that stood out was a huge cedar tree. This huge cedar tree is called "Long-Life Cedar" and is said to have been hand-planted by Kukai, and is about 1,200 years old.

The Daishido and Hondo can be reached via stone stairs. Do not miss the centuries old camphor tree and the small "wishing" jizo placed outside the Hondo. Lovely temple set up right at the foothills of a mountain. The people in the nokyocho office were very helpful with giving directions to the next temple.
