The Cathedral of Las Lajas is a must do when leaving or arriving in Colombia. It has obviously become quite touristy with many gift shops lining the path as you walk down the valley to the cathedral. However once you arrive its absolutely stunning (except all the nearby buildings), the best photographic view is not from the very top path... More

Las Lajas is really close to the border between Ecuador and Colombia. When you get past the border in Colombia you first end up in the town Ipiales. From the bus station in Ipiales (or in town, I seem to recall as well) you can take a taxi (8000-10 000 COP) or a colectivo (2500 COP per person) to Las... More

A visit to Ipiales is worth it even if you only go to Las Lajas! It´s an easy trip form Ipiales, about 20 minutes, but once there, you will be glad you went!

really did not like pasto, so decided to take a day trip to this cathedral, the building itself looks quite surreal, close up looks feel like a castle in disneyland, because it is so new, it was only finished in the 40s in a new goth style, but it is still impressive, but even so, the nature surrounding it is... This cathedral is amazing and worth the trip. Make sure to bring cash with you as there are no atms. The restaurant on site is very good. Recommend the pork roast.

Great and impressive place. A must to see. To my opinion it would be nicer if the Cathedral would have white lightning at the outside instead of revolving colors.

Absolutely stunning! This fortress is absolutely beautiful it is surrounded by the andes, lush forests and mountains and its spires stick up above the tall pines. This is a MUST see!

You must be determined to reach Ipiales, which is a quite unfriendly city for tourists - very limited comforts, nothing particular to be seen, very remote - almost on the border with Ecuador. The sanctuary is impressive for its location; the actual building is relatively new and the interiors are almost kitsch (as many renovated churches in South America). But... More

The only reason I took a long bus ride journey into Southern Colombia was to see Las Lajas in person. It did not disappoint as I enjoyed my afternoon there.

I was here at the end of January this year, this was not my first place to visit this Sanctuary, but I had not visit it in almost 20 years and I was very impressed in how it had improved the access, the cleanliness and overall maintenance of this special place, where nature and faith comes together to construct this...
