We heard that this is the longest rollercoaster in Austria so we had to stop by. Price was 12.5 Euro for adult (kids under 5 were free). This was better than the one we took at Gemunden as it was long and higher speed.

The only disadvantage was that there was nothing else to do other than the rollercoaster.
Some like to do hiking around but for kids other than that was the play ground.

This was the highlight of our day trip from Salzburg - really fun, with gorgeous scenery, and great picture opportunities. This is an open air, single person toboggan run, on a rail that twists and turns down the mountainside through pastures and tunnels and even by some placid cows. A nice, long ride, and you can control your speed very easily. Well worth the trip. About 8 euro per adult, 6,5 for kids. Highly recommend this but remember it does not operate when it rains.

Excellent mountain slide, especially as a first time experience (as it was for us). The climb up by cable-car is easy and the view absolutely wonderful.
Sliding is fast and fun and both my kids (9/11) could do it on their own easy.
Very recommended family activity. Arrive early and you're done in 30-40min tops.

We came with family and friends. Children from 6-17. It was fun. You can control the speed. In the end there is a games area with slides, ropes, trampoline...

Very fun for adults and children, Our kids are 4 so they set with us and we had a great time! There is a nice playground at the end. One free entrance with the Zaltsburland card, we went up twice :)
We had nice coffee on top of the mountain :)
After 18:00, you can go up unlimited! we didnt do it but we should of, the kids enjoyed it very much so we did it in other places, it cost about 11 Euro each time.

We spent the afternoon at Karkogel with a large group of 12. We went on the sledge run which was absolutely amazing. The hire costs were extremely reasonable and the 2 guys in the hire shop were amazing and were really helpful and polite. The sledge run was a 3km downhill thrill seeking experience. For a complete snowy winter sport virgin- this was the best thing to start off on- i did sustain my first ever winter sports injury and has some near death experiences whilst sledging down a mountain at 40 kmph. The track was particularly fast as there was no fresh snow laid on there but this only helped improve the experience. The site caters for all levels of skiers and had a lovely restaurant.

Karkogel is a ski resort in the winter but is an alpine slide in the summer. Karkogel is located in the small town of Abtenau, Austria. It is a short 35 mile drive from Salzburg (just go south on the A10 and then turn left on highway 162). As you drive into the town you can’t miss it as it’s the only ski resort on the side of the mountain. There is a free parking lot right next to the ticket office and the Gondola that takes you up to the top of the mountain. The alpine slide track is about 6,000 feet long and winds from one side of the hill to the other.

I visited Karkogel with my wife on a Sunday afternoon in late May and really enjoyed going down the mountain on the alpine slide (twice). We had a good time on the Karkogel alpine slide. As we were planning the vacation this was the only activity that my wife had on her “must do” list. The sleds actually go pretty fast and there are signs along the track letting you know when you should slow down (curve ahead).

Overall I really enjoyed the Karkogel alpine slide and recommend it.

About 2 KM slide. Climbing the mountain with the cable car.
Lovely views at the top of the mountain and as you go down with the slide.
For all ages, children up to 6 can slide with a parent.
One go is free with Salzburgland card

This is a must visit attraction if you are in the Salzbugerland area.

We went on Thursday evening (after 6pm you pay once and can go up and down as often as you like) and it was one of the most enjoyable family evenings ever.

The facilities are all very well kept (toilets etc) and the staff very helpful. All of the guides and prices lists are in multi languages which helps.

The cable car ride up was very pleasant and smooth and gave a great view over Abtenau as you climbed the mountain.

The queues were very small for why would appear to be a peak time and the staff never seemed to stop working.

The journey down was a very different experience but hugely fun. After an initial ride down with a parent our eldest (8yrs old) rode each time by herself and our 6yr old was in charge of the brakes when riding with mummy or daddy (a truly scary experience!!!)

Great fun was had by all and we managed 6 assents and dessents before it got too dark.

We spent 4 days in Abtenau and we had a great fun with Karkogel! The mountain is beautiful with a quite long way to slop. The view of Abtenau from the restaurant terrace in the peak is amazing. Our kids are 4 and 7 years old and they enjoyed a lot. Till 6 years, it is free of charge. There is a nice playground next to the starting point and a good place for parents to have a coffee and rest.
