The museum displays the result of decades of archaeological research in the area. The route begins with the Paleolithic with fossil remains of animals and tools dated half a million years ago, made by Homo erectus/heidelbergensis. Next is the Neolithic room with fragments of the oldest ceramics in the area and lithic tools. We continue with the findings of the Copper Age, with the findings of the most important necropolises of the Culture of Rinaldone present in the territory. The section on the Bronze Age is rich, from the Ancient to the Final, with artifacts that rarely happen to be seen in museums, certainly not of this quality and quantity. A separate room is dedicated to materials from the Scarceta site that allow you to have a glimpse of everyday life, craft activities, productions of a Bronze Age site.
In addition to the quality, quantity and care in the exhibition, what enhances the collection is the presence of synthetic panels on the walls that illustrate the period and book panels that allow you to have all the information about the sites from which the finds in the room come. On the panels there are qr codes that allow you to open multimedia content to read or audio guides for those who do not want or cannot read. A solution that I found very well thought out and well realized. Finally clear, up-to-date and working multimedia content.
From the windows of the museum you can admire wonderful views of Manciano and the landscape. If all this is not enough I would add that the museum is free.

The museum is housed in a nineteenth-century building, located on the slope that goes from the church of San Leonardo up to the Cassero. The purpose of the museum is to reconstruct the period that preceded the advent of the Etruscan civilization in the Maremma, through the display of finds ranging from the Paleolithic to the end of the Bronze Age. Small-medium museum which unfolds in 6 rooms, of which the first 5 follow one another in chronological order: from the Paleolithic room we move on to the Neolithic room, then to the Eneolithic room and then to the ancient and recent bronze room and finally to the of the final bronze; a final room is dedicated to the Bronze Age finds from the locality of Scarceta (13th-11th century BC). The pieces on display will be around 500-600, but many are repetitive, or very small in size and, taking into account the period, of poor artistic and/or technical quality and mostly made of stone (flints, jaspers, obsidian, etc. ): arrowheads, axes, tools of various types, pottery, etc. The exhibition boards are flanked by various information panels while I did not find any active multimedia installation (with your mobile phone, by scanning some QR-codes, and then installing the relevant app, it is possible to access some virtual routes). The route is certainly interesting for prehistory enthusiasts or for those eager to retrace local history before the Etruscan civilization; for other tourists it may just be a curiosity. However, entry is free.
