A short drive from VH this magnificent stretch of beach is wild and windy, perfect for walking and fishing. The sand is clean and it is very photogenic. The day I was there I would suspect there are safer places to swim.

Arrive at the carpark to a raised boardwalk. A few steps down and you're on a gorgeous sandy beach that is home to the rare and endangered hooded plover. Wet your feet with the freshest water ever, but don't go in any further, there are too many rips, the water is very dangerous and wild.
Do not disturb the hooded plovers nest if you come across one and respect the environment.

Spectacular long beach where fishermen cast into the often heavy waves and deep channels and gutters. The beach is clean and the sand is a beautiful orangey brown colour. Signs clearly point out the dangers here. There’s a car park, toilets and a walkway across the dunes to a viewing platform where you can very safely look at the surf and the waves, the fishermen and the surfers, and the whales when they arrive in winter. It’s well worth the 30 minutes or so drive west from Victor Harbor for the view and a walk along the beach. The roads are sealed all the way.

Whenever we feel like a short break and an encounter with Nature, a drive to Waits is an inexpensive, awe-inspiring prelude to moments to remember. Once you hit the crest of the hill that leads down into the sand dunes, you begin to try to work out who is having the better day: the surfers or the fishermen. Arrive at the boardwalk and then the question is: "Do I walk down the boardwalk and onto the beach or go up the hill and follow the trail into the sand hills to Dennis Hut?" If you are unsure, do both. Each provides another opportunity to take time out to look, smell and listen to whatever revelations may be coming your way.

Waitpinga Beach is scenic, remote and a popular spot for fishing, camping and hiking.
There is a raised walkway which provides a good overall view. A walk on the beach is nice.
Waitpinga is not a swimming beach. The surf is very strong and unexpected king waves are a risk. You can be up to your waist one moment, then the water can surge over your head the next. There are warning signs.
There is a toilet, but everything else required you will need to bring with you. There is limited phone coverage. Just enjoy the location.
Hooded Plovers are endangered. Respect the environment.

A real hidden gem as the other reviewer has said. 15km west of Victor Harbor and three km down a sealed road, Waitpinga Beach is absolutely stunning. There is a very very small car park area and then some steps down to the beach.
Miles of soft golden sand and some very impressive waves. Popular in the morning and evening with local fishermen. We visited one evening to let the teenage boys fish whilst the rest of us, two adults and three kids aged 9, 12 and 14, enjoyed fish and chips, cricket and touch rugby with nobody around. It's not recommended for swimming and only for experienced surfers due to the rips and gullies that run the length of the beach and the powerful waves.
Certainly worth visiting as its stunning, quiet and beautiful sunsets.

A good looking beach, but pretty dangerous rips form here, so be careful if you decide to jump in. Worth a look, and some picturesque walks based from here.

Beautiful but have been told by locals it isn't very safe for swimming. A bit out of the way to get to.

This wild, untamed, magnificent coastal region, is within 11 km driving distance from Victor Harbor. This is a patrolled conservation park where one can enjoy bird watching e.g. migrating Terns on the shore; kangaroos just inland around the camping area. Fishermen do occasionally try their luck, but the surf is very dangerous and swimming is definitely not advised. Peaceful and quiet.

Planning to be in Encounter Bay area January 2020... noticed one January 2018 Waitpinga Beach review... wondered about use of Heysen Trail in and about Newland Head Conservation Park area during January. A bit confused because the Park appears to be open but the Trail appears to be closed. Then again I’m a New Yorker, easily confused where everything isn’t made of steel and glass... All help appreciated!

I visited waitpinga earlier this week and wondered what the hundreds of dark blue/ black jellyfish? we’re in the water. I’m not convinced that they were jelly fish as they had short tentacles and the swimmers didn’t seem to be alarmed by them, but was curious to know what they were ?
