I was charmed by this lovely little museum. The first three rooms contain nativity scenes, generally from the 19th century. I was struck by the scent of gingerbread from the recently added gingerbread scenes. Some of the scenes are mechanical and you can operate them for a small fee. The basement is a little odd and creepy but go anyway. Don't miss the attic which contains a room size mechanical nativity scene featuring the kings of bohemia. Plus you can see the structure of this older building up there if you're into architecture. You can see this museum in a half hour, but the price is reasonable at 50 koruna.

There are approximately fifty beautiful nativity scenes in that museum. Some of the scenes move or they lit.
In the loft there is the largest Czech moving nativity scene (it stretches on about 80 meters square). This nativity scene shows the little Jesus who receives presents from the king Charles IV. and from the first Czech president as well. You can see sixty four wooden figures there.
This museum is very lovely and definitely worth visiting.
Admission is 50,- CZK per adult. Taking pictures is allowed.

Muzeum navštěvuji každý rok před Vánoci, vždy tam na mě dýchne sváteční atmosféra. Vystavují zde mnoho betlémů z různých materiálů a z různých období. Rozhodně doporučuji navštívit. V podzemí se nachází sklepaní s Bílou paní.
I visit this museum every year before Christmas. They exhibit many Christmas creche. I love this place for its festive atmosphere. I can recommend it.

My family disagree with me on this so this is my own view. There are 3 sections. The first is full of old dolls, toys and hand built mechanical things, some of which are just plain odd. Then there is the cellar exploration by candlelight, we all liked that and wished it had been more than a couple of small rooms so you can do 10 mins max. Finally in the attic there is a hand built scene depicting a historical event with figures that move in circles. The narration is only Czech (which is no issue considering ..) I am guessing it has never been cleaned.. anyway, apart from the cellar, not my thing.

Nice complimentary exhibition to castle visit, once you are finished with Castle tour, and have still hour or two to spare

There's not much to do in Karlstejn other then visiting the castle and have lunch at one of the local restaurant. But this is a nice addition to your visit. Especially if you come with kids. Some of the scenes move and/or are lit. In the summer time it's like a little piece of Christmas.

A nice place, with beautiful and antique nativity scenes (gingerbread, wood, etc). There's a nice puppet show. Good for kids, but not mandatory.
