Malta cities are not green at all but this place is very beautiful oasis of life. Huge old trees, ponds, fountains and birds moving freely within tall walls separating this green historical paradise from busy city. If you want to rest for a while and sort your toughts this is the best place. Entrance for free opening hours differs in summer and winter. Definitely worth visiting. There are also free toilets so don’t worry.

Beautiful walled garden. Divided into lots of different areas. Some unusual trees and plants (luckily labelled). Lots of pathways leading to fountains, statues or buildings.
Amazing colours and botanical plants.
Turtles in the fountain, wander peacock.
Highly recommend. You will need more than an hour if you use the hop on hop off bus.

Free entry, to formal gardens. Lots of Orange trees with fruit going to waste, apparently used to collect for homes, but now don't bother, a sign of neglect that is beginning to appear. Green houses shut to public and mini zoo ( a few birds in aviaryes) a bit run down.
It's a peaceful haven, that has seen better days, but still probably best on island. That says it all, Not exactly Kew!!!
Kitchen garden is basically a cafe and child's play area now, but far enough away from main formal garden not to break silence.
Palace is for President and private so no access. Gardens shut just after dusk, so ignore previous comment about open 24 hours.

Unfortunately August is just too dry a month to get the full splendour of this garden. Seeing photos of the Spring though I would love to come in visit in April or May. Such colours everywhere, compared to the grey and browns on our visit. Still worth a little wander around though and to see the peacocks and terrapins enjoying the shade provided by the huge trees. We were even shown a tree over 500 years old! It was HUGE!

A good place to go but may be better in the summer months when the gardens could come to life. The extensive grounds were a bit drab with not alot to look at. Quite difficult to find if going by bus, my advice ask to be put off the bus at nearest stop, we missed the stop ,( had we even known where it was) and ended up walking for miles to find it. . Will go again but at a better time of year, February was not it!!

My wife and myself are currently holidaying in Malta staying at the impressive Corinthia Palace Hotel (Review to follow) and just across the road are the San Anton Gardens which we visited this morning.
It’s clearly a very popular attraction as - although it was a Sunday morning - there were plenty of other people either with their children (there is no shortage of wildlife to see) or walking their dogs.
There is no entry charge and the Gardens themselves are full of plants, shrubs and trees from around the world and there are plenty of empty buildings reminding the visitor of what things must have been like in its heyday! Even so, it’s still a very pleasant place to spend an hour or so - something I suspect we’ll be doing several more times during the rest of our stay!

A place to find shade in a lovely setting. Peacocks and ducks and pigeons. Plenty of seating under tall trees. Spent the morning there. Bus 54 from Valletta gets you within 5 minutes walk of the garden

We visited in the spring, just before the main burst of flowers. The variety of plant life is very good and the peace within the garden is relaxing. I agree, seeing the birds in the so called aviary wasn’t pleasant nor humane. I hope this has been addressed by now. Otherwise they are tired and slowly deteriorating gardens, but it adds ambiance of colonial rule. Overall I enjoyed the casual feel of the gardens.

We were trying to find it by public transport, I used google maps, but it wasn't so easy to find. Some tips, how to find it easier. From Valletta bus station, going to platform Valletta C3 and taking bus number 54, going out on Pastur stop.
I hoped it would be bigger, but the walking around was calming. Birds walking around without fence. Fountains, I lije fointains alot.
On territory there is toilet.

Not worth to visit at all. Garden is very neglected, no flower beds, trees that look miserable because lack of water Very embarrassing that this garden is being presented as a interesting place for sightseeing. My advise: skip it when you are passing by with the hop on hop off bus.

What bus do you get from Valletta? And what stop do you get off at, please?

Regarding Covid & wildlife, are all the animals being fed during the lockdown? I ask because it has been reported in the local press that 2 swans were left to die. There were also reports that volunteer cat feeders had problems doing their work. If you didn’t want to let them in, then surely you should be ensuring that the cats & indeed all animals are still fed?

Yes, local residents do it with no problems. Dog lead obligatory because of kids and cats
