“Great Information on Norway's Past”
Gol Stave Church, which is in the mediaval park Gordarike, is a true copy of the Gol stave church built in the 1200s. The copy was built in the 1980s and consecrated by the bishop of Tunsberg in 1994. In the summer evening on Wednesdays there is a...more

My tour guide stopped here to show me the old church. She explained the age and the cross from the old religions to Christianity. And the mix of dragons and crosses. I found this very interesting. And it looks very cool.

There is a short inclined hill to see the church. Walking up we saw beauty of the rich earth colored Gol Stave Church and buildings on the lush green grass. The hand carving of each of the buildings was very detailed and ornate. The ground...More

The original Gol stave church is located at Bygdøy Folkemuseum, Oslo. But this church is a reasonable good copy. It gives the visitor an idea of what a stave church looks like. What I don't like is the carnival atmosphere surrounding the site. A traditional...More

This church was rebuilt on this location, now behind the gates of Gordarike so you can only visit during opening hours and for a fee. In my opinion there are many other, more beautiful and truly original stave kirkes in the area, don't bother with...More

This is a newly made COPY of the original Gol stavechurch. There are a lot of ancient and well preserved stave-churches, so there should not be necessary to make copies.

This wooden church can be found in the Folk Museum - its a bit of a trek up the hill but its well worth finding. Inspiring, if you need information or help you will find a guide in costume who is very helpful.

Most Stave churches are difficult to visit during a short trip in Norway. This one was relocated and rebuilt in the folk museum in Oslo. Beautifully reset and well worth a visit to get a feel ( and scent ) of these churches

We were fortunate to attend a wedding in this fabulous Viking church. Ancient wall decorations depicting the last supper and intricate carvings were very atmospheric, live music and a fabulous ceremony made for a special day.
