Only a few minutes out of town, it is really quite impressive to see the size of the animals that once roamed the area. Lots of little tourists shop line the area were this museum is built. It is a quick but worthwhile adventure for archeological buffs and otherwise just folks who wish to take in something quite different!

Villa de Leyva is famous in Colombia for its fossils. This small research center does personalized tours by local guides and where you can actually see fossils being prepared for study and exhibition. They have a small dig site where kids can experience being paleontologists for a few hours, the fossils are replicas but the kids feel as if they were in Jurrasic park.

Interesting to learn more about Colombia through its paleontological history. While the exhibit is quite small, it is definitively worth a visit if you are in the area anyways. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, and our specific guide spoke good English.

So much to see here - and the guide spoke English! Don't miss this museum. We come from Alberta, Canada and have incredible museums on the dinosaurs - but I don't remember seeing fossils of massive sea turtles there!

A total surprise for us. We went to the El Fosil museum, that is really disappointing, and when returning to Villa we discovered this amazing place. Very professional staff and surprisingly scientific. Go there, you won't regret it

I don´t get why people waste their times visiting the fossils in front of this center. This center is SCIENTIFIC, professional, real. They explain you very well. It was great, and children would love it.

This place shows from research and education everything that has been discovered in Villa de Leyva about marine dinosaur fossils. We found a didactic place with professional guides that handle the subject with a lot of methodology and order.

This is a great and educational way to spend an hour or two, granted my Spanish isn't exactly expert level, so I wasn't able to get all the information, but i did fine. It's great especially if you have little one(s), what kids don't love dinosaurs?

We were positively surprised on this one. We visited on our cycling loop around Villa de Leyva, and this was one, if not the, highlight. We didn't exactly know what to expect, but it ended up being super interesting. This is a well-run little museum/exhibit, with a research centre attached (or should I say it's the other way around...?). The entry fee includes a guided visit, which lasts some 20 minutes, and gives a great insight on the paleontological findings and research done in the area. It's impressive, and certainly worth the entry fee. Go!

The guides were informed and helpful. Lab is on site where you can actually see preps worked on. Well preserved specimens dating back 120-130 million years. Just enough facts to be interesting but not overwhelming.
