It is a nice place to visit when in Villavicencio, you can see unique animal species like the ocarros, I didn’t know they even existed. Also, and most importantly the park is in charge of preservation and reproduction of the species.
It is good fun for kids of all ages.

This is a a fairly large bioparque where visitors can see wildlife from the various regions in Colombia. Some are so unique you will not be able to view them anywhere else in the world. There is even plant life throughout the park indigenous to the region and country so that is an extra bonus. You can even hire a guide, usually a local youth that will explain everything to you and even give you stories behind the animals. Well worth the effort in going.

It's an excellent place for knowing endemic species, most of them from colombian eastland, you can observe anacondas, anteaters, giant armadillos, tapirs, among others.
Entrance cost around 5 dollars (fifteen thousand colombian pesos), the biopark is located between Villavicencio and Restrepo, you can go there in taxi, it cost around 3,5 dollars (ten thousand colombian pesos), from villavicencio to biopark takes 15 minutes in car.

The first thing you need to know is that it is not a zoo, it´s a biopark. This means their main purpose is the conservation and reintroduction of rescued animals to their native environment. They also seeks to sensitize and raise awareness among people about the importance of preserving and conserving natural resources, and to guide them towards an adequate management of them. In this way, visitors can enjoy two hours of walking through open paths surrounded by the flora of the Orinoquia, and will be able to appreciate up close the fauna of the region in different exhibitions. It is pretty close from the city of Villavicencio (taxi can cost +/- $6.000 pesos from downtown and can be taken again at the exit), bring mosquito repellent, cap, and sunblock. Refreshments can be get there.

You can definitely spend an hour or two here touring this lovely little zoo. There is a playground for children and snack shops along the path. They have signs about the animals in both Spanish and English.

This is situated about 3 miles out of the centre of Villavicencio towards Restrepo. Park in one of the private car parks opposite for about 75% less than the official car park. You are not allowed to bring in food or drinks. Your bags will be searched and any food or water etc. Will be removed. It’s very cheap to get in. The park specialises in saving endangered animals and rescuing animals from being kept in cages etc. A great effort. It’s not the biggest place I’ve ever been to but you’ll still spend a good half day here looking at various animals from armadillos to Jaguars to anacondas to toucans and parrots. You can buy fish food and feed the fish or the ducks and geese - great fun for the kids.

We are in Colombia for a week and it was suggested that we visit the biopark. E
Not sure what to expect we paid our 13,000 pesos($5.60) and entered. We were met by very helpful staff who pointed out the animals the staff gave basic information on their habitat etc. This was mostly in spanish although a few had basic english. Information in english was posted on information boards

The interesting thing for me was seeing animals in their natural habitat. I have seen armadillo, sloths, iguana in other zoos in Europe and N America but always in heated enclosures. These were allowed to live outside in their natural warm habitat

The most interesting animal for me was the Anaconda a huge animal which we could approach to within a few feet.
To summarize. Not the definitive zoo for scientific research but probably a great zoo for children and seeing exotic animals in their natural habitat.
